Watching only a few minutes and the game is filled with big time moving screens. Ginobili hit on an inbounds play where his man was ridden off like he was being blocked by a tightend. I don't know who the screener was. Then on the other end of the floor one of the Thunder broke free and was cutting through the lane and Duncan reached out and shoved the guy toward the basket slowing him down. Neither was called but should have been.

I don't know know what the league can do the clean up the NBA game. The players are so big, physical, and athletic. The refs could call a foul on just about every play. It would help if they called traveling so that the players would actually be guardable w/out having to body slam them on every other play.

Eventhough the players are so much more talented than college players, I simply enjoy the college game so much more.

You mean you like the Big East game more. Don't tell me Puke doesn't get calls like NBA teams do.

don't understand how anyone could watch that game tonight with the pace and high level it was being played at and think how bad it was to watch but then again this is the boneyard, where the slop of the college game is always better compared to watching the NBA.

The Spurs have gotten the calls for years. It's a big part of Pop's gameplan. Duncan is a master of subtle fouling...often using the subtle shove in the back and hitting the opponent in the upper arms (further away from the ball) when they are shooting. Bowen used to be a master of getting away with fouls on the perimeter and putting his foot under the opponents when they pull up for a jumpshot, causing numerous sprained ankles (LeBron did the same ing to Granger in their last series). Ginobili and Parker get away with traveling as much as anyone in the league and Ginobili is perhaps the worst offensive flopped in the league.
In tonight's game down the stretch the officials were a large part of San Antonio's comeback...at least two clearly blown charge calls where the SA defender was clearly moving.
I don't have a horse in the race since KO retired, but I hate to see the refs influence an outcome to this degree

college refs are way worse imo. basketball is really difficult to officiate, and becomes increasingly difficult as the athletes get better. i love both games and probably enjoy college a little bit more, but it certainly isnt because of the gameplay. how many games did we see this year from uconn and across the country that were slow paced, 55-50 where both teams failed to execute down the stretch? people complain about all the 'iso-ball' in the NBA, but if you really just focus on the execution in college games, theres a lot of nothing and way too many forces at the end of the shot clock. ( i realize you were just talking about refs, that was a little tangent)

NBA officials are absolutely horrific. All you need to do is look at a box score and you'll see lopsidedness more often than not

can anyone tell me why the road teams foul more often? on such a regular basis?

didn't really watch much of Sunday's game, still saw two beautiful calls, and a few others that you just come to expect. Durant scored on a breakaway dunk without dribbling the ball from about 6-10 feet beyond the top of the key. To me, the replay showed at least three complete long strides (simply not debatable). Reggie Miller says it was a good call (no call), only two steps were taken. Then Perkins gets called for fouling Duncan when he essentially just let Duncan score uncontested. Miller says it was another good call, Perkins grabbed Duncan's shirt. I never saw the grab, and none of the replays showed it either.

Which leads to my next question. Are NBA announcers paid to prop up the officiating? Because they see things on replays nobody else does. It's like they're witnessing some optical illusion.

Then again there are many who would prefer the college game, which is a bunch of young kids playing hard every game, the the NBA where they look to make people thier poster boys!!! Let's be honest LeBron and Wade can do no wrong most of the time (before that Michael, Shaq etc etc) and it comes from the top!!

Bunch of whining overpaid athletes vs kids puring their hears out for a NC??....pretty easy choice for me but to each his own right?!?!?

I've seen threads on this board that state the following...

"High school games are poorly officiated"
"NBA games are poorly officiated."
"College games are poorly officiated."

So, what is the solution?

Care to explain what you think of it BigCrack?? It's mostly good in the college game and as we saw with our own team in 2011 a "team" that is not one of the best can win with some heart. Ever see that in the NBA?? It's always one of the pre-season fav's............only speaking for me but if the Huskies aren't in the FF it's still a great 3 weekends of basketball.......the NBA finals......even if my C's are in it as they are, lucky to watch 15-20 minutes of each game (painful).....again to each their own Crackman.

Nobody had the Mavs as the favorite to win it all last year

You're right, to each his own. But I find that most people that are critical of the NBA game - or at least the playoffs - are critical based on some notion in their head of what the NBA is about, and not based on actually watching the games. Personally, I love Connecticut and don't miss a game, but it's getting more and more difficult for me to watch a run of the mill, 52-45 college game because the talent level is so abysmal. Hell, when I try to get people on the UConn bandwagon by watching a game and they sit through a half of Oriakhi hitting the top of the glass with a baby hook or the stagnant offense they're not particularly inclined to become enthusiasts.

As far as the structure of the playoffs, I dont know what to tell you. I'm a fan of sports being played at their highest level by the best players on the planet. And the intensity of an NBA playoff game in no way takes a backseat to that of the college game.

aceboon, don't even bother, most posters on this board are totally clueless when it comes to the nba. It's ridiculous that people can come away from that game last night complaining about the nba, that game was played at a ridiculously high level and 10x better than anything you will see in the college game.

I was a huge NBA fan when I was in middle school/high school (the height of the Jordan era). I never missed a Celtics game or a national tv game. I probably went to about 20 games a season. I liked college hoops but if I had to choose between an NBA game or a college game, I typically chose the NBA game. Once I got to UConn and experienced Gampel, the electricity, etc, I turned into a college hoops fan. My feelings did a complete flip from my high school days. I was the same age as the competitors, the atmosphere was great, and seeing the best in the nation go at it night after night hooked me. I more or less ignored the NBA save for the Celtics and an occasional playoff game.

Around 2006-ish I got back into the NBA in general and was surprised at how much I enjoyed watching it. I had recently had a discussion with a family friend who had become an NBA scout after being a division 1 college coach. We had talked at length about the differences between the NBA and college and the biggest one, he said, was that in the NBA you have teams who will take nights off here and there. That bothered me at first but talking to him and even watching a game or two with him really opened my eyes to the subtle differences and I am back into the league now.

I am not wild about the perceived officiating biases, the way players seem to run the league at times, or the thuggish nature of some of the players but you can't argue that the level of play is incredible and it is just ratcheted up even more so in the playoffs.

You guys have it figured ou I give. The funny thing is the complaint on college scoring.......best players on the planet were scoring at a pathetic rate during this season, even many of the playoff games.......again its what you like. Funny how upset people get at opinions on the NBA.....

Yeah I think a lot of people like college ball better because there is a lot less ego involved/as easily visible, the fact that upsets are much more common (could a Lehigh of the NBA beat a Duke of the NBA? Could a VCU of the NBA get to the finals?), and the atmosphere is beyond anything in the NBA. College students are the best fans on the planet. If you think NBA games can get loud, you obviously were not at the Cuse game this year.

I don't think anyone can deny that the technicals that refs call these days is absurd. Did anyone see that T that Ray just got? What a joke.

Yeah and that T on Garnett for tipping the ball out of bounds, as if that doesn't happen after every other made basket in every game.

As I typed this, a T called on Doc. That's 3 awful Ts in less than 20 minutes. In a CONFERENCE FINALS GAME. Don't tell me that the same moron called all 3.

The refereeing in this game reflects really, really poorly on the NBA.
