First time on the yard since before Saturday's kickoff). Have relatives in town and celebrated a cousin's 75th birthday. Yes, one can critique Fagnano for couple plays (don't want to get into those) but he did have an excellent game and threw a few deep strikes that we've never seen from him. Problem #1 was that our defense seemed to forget how to tackle. There isn't sufficient criticism to cover this. Problem #2 is how a school brand new to FBS football (logically about half of their roster should be comprised of FCS players) was able to out physical us on both lines of scrimmage for a lot of the game. I know they have some nice pieces at skill positions from the portal, that they were a top tier FCS school for basically as long as D1 split football into two levels and i know the we aren't yet ready to matchup our roster with most P4 schools. Still, it's an indictment on many that we couldn't have demonstrated that we were at least a little better than they were on both lines of scrimmage. A large part of me thinks that we don't take some opponents as seriously as we should (i can think of a half dozen examples from 2023), leading to situations like Saturday. I hope I'm wrong but I do see possibility of being correct. I hope that I'm wrong on this but prior to this past weekend I fully expected Ball State to be stronger on both lines than Delaware. If this is in fact the case, we've got our work cut out for us.
