Is extremely important to the future of UConn football. The damage inflicted over the past 2.5 seasons is jaw dropping. Fortunately, due to the energy and determination of the players and the coaching staff there is now plenty of evidence that that damage was merely superficial and not permanent, and has already been significantly repaired. However, the importance of this decision transcends just the football program. The need to establish a nationally prominent football program is of crucial importance to the both the UConn Athletic Department and all other UConn D1 level sports including those two stallwart's - the men's and women's basketball. The basketball teams put UConn on the national college sports map. Conference realignment and the breakdown of traditional geographical rivalries has put UConn in imminent danger of sliding back to mid-level obscurity - and that includes both hoops teams. The two great basketball programs are by themselves unlikely to be able reposition UConn in a more favorable conference setting (that would have happened already) and need the football program to establish it's name as a regional/national power. UConn does not have the luxury of hiring another coach who is more befuddled by the modern game than the fans are. We need a winner, motivator, recruiter who will look at UConn as a place to build a national program, and hopefully not just to build a personal national reputation and quickly leave for another school. We need to reposition ourselves as a logical choice for a better conference just to make enough money to support the other great D1 level sports programs at UConn. Go UConn!!

The schools in the AAC have the same goal, to get out. If you think any school is going to settle for crappy recruiting, you're mistaken. It seems to be as if UConn now almost has CT locked down.
