-> UConn will be replacing three starters along the line — including two-time All-American Christian Haynes. But one position that is of no concern is tackle, where it has veterans Valentin Senn on the left and Chase Lundt on the right.
"I'm excited to see all the depth that we have and knowing that there's going to be a lot of competition," Senn said Tuesday as the Huskies' media day. "Competition is going to bring out the best in everybody. It's going to be exciting to see who's going to step up and prove themselves and who's going to be that man once we play at Maryland."
"I'm really excited to come together throughout this whole fall camp. This time of the year is really important. I told Chase that I'm as excited now as I was the first year. It's weird. You would think the sixth time through it would be like, 'Let's just move on.' But it's the opposite. I'm more excited than ever."
Both Lundt (6-foot-8, 305 pounds) and Senn (6-foot-7, 305 pounds) started their college careers in 2019. Lundt arrived here to play for former UConn coach Randy Edsall, while Senn transferred in from Colorado in 2021.<-
-> The offensive line coach the last two years, Gordon Sammis, was promoted to offensive coordinator in the offseason, replacing Nick Charlton.
"Now that he is the OC we get to use everybody’s skill set in the way that we want to," Lundt said. "We have all these dynamic playmakers now, and we can find ways to use them in our offense. I won't go into detail about it because I don't want to give away too much. But it's important to realize there are going to be a lot of changes made in or our offense and a lot of good things are going to come out of it at the end of the day." <-
-> Among the candidates for the interior of the line are a pair of guards who transferred from Syracuse, junior Wes Hoeh and redshirt freshman Jayden Bass, as well as senior center Christopher Fortin.
"Transition is part of college football, and there are certainly question marks on those interior three positions," Mora said. "As we get going and it's live and it's contact and it's not the stuff we were doing in the spring when it wasn’t really ever live, I'll have a better feel. I have tremendous faith in Gordy (Sammis) and he feels great about that group." <-
