With recruiting and commitments taking place I see that everyone is asking how many sports do we have left for other potential recruits. Especially today since Blanca Quinonez committed.
It's all about numbers or chairs that become available. What we do know is that technically the team only losses two players after this season. They would be Graduate Senior Kaitlyn Chen and Red-shirt Senior Aubrey Griffen.
Paige Bueckers is also a Red-shirt senior but still has a year of eligibility left. She has said that his was her last year though. As I mentioned in a different thread if the Dallas Wings wind up getting the first overall pick in next years WNBA Draft then if I was Paige I would hold out or return for another year. However, that is something that she would not do. So now we have lost three players.
Next on the list are Red-shirt Junior Azzi Fudd and Red-shirt Junior Caroline Ducharme. Azzi has already graduated and has been mentioned as a high pick on the Draft watch list. I believe that she is leaving. This brings us to the swing player and whether we have five potential openings for the upcoming school season. Will Caroline return for her fifth year? Will she enter the draft? Will she be able to play because of injury? That is a lot. I believe that she also leaves after this season. My opinion only. That gives Geno five available scholarships.
We do NOT have any Juniors....
Moving up the chart are two Red-shirt sophomore's in Ice Brady and Ayanna Patterson. They both have two more years that they can stay at UConn if they wish too. We also have three sophomore's in KK Arnold, Qadence Samuels and Ashlynn Shade. Coming in this year are: Red-shirt Frosh Jana El Alfy, Allie Ziebell, Sarah Strong and Morgan Cheli.
That is a roster of 14 player. Kaitlin and Aubrey are done. Paige is certain to move as is Azzie. And, I speculate that Caroline will also. If UConn wants a full bench then we can have 10 players. Currently we have nine players locked up for next year. They are: 1) Brady, 2) Patterson, 3) Arnold, 4) Samuels, 5) Shade, 6) El Alfy, 7) Morgan Cheli, 8) Sarah Strong and 9) Allie Ziebell.
Right now we have three players that will be incoming for the 2025 season. Kelis Fisher who committed two years ago, Gandy Malou-Mamel and from today Quinonez. This brings the roster up to 12 Players. So Geno does have room to add three players if he wanted to. The most notable names that have been mentioned the most are: Agot Meeker, Lara Somfai and Deniya Prawl. Any of these players would be welcomed additions to the team.
But, I doubt if the staff would pursue trying to add all three of those players. Go bacxk up to where is said that we do NOT have any juniors. This means that we have to keep open spots for the Class of 2026 if no one decides to hit the portal. This Class is full of talent as we all know. Top prioirty for UConn would be Olivia Vukosa. However there are other ladies that are awesome talents. You have Saniyah Hall, Jerzy Robinson, Addison Bjorn among others. I'm guessing that Geno will take another player from the 2025 Class if any want to commit. Then that would leave room for two openings for the Class of 2026.
Five spots will clear for the Class of 2027. We can start by adding and wishful thinking here: Kaleena Smith, Qandance Samuels and Lauren Hassell.
