This says it all about who Dawn Staley is..... And just as Staley sent a piece of the net to every Black woman coach in Division I, she sent a replica national trophy to all of her former players at South Carolina and Temple, along with her University of Virginia teammates, at her own expense. Each one has a plaque inscribed with the words "Because of you." Fountain and fire hose: An inside look at the Dawn Staley way

Great article! I just posted the same thing, but I looked for threads first - I promise. I guess maybe if there is a delay? Anyway, sorry about that!

Super classy. This was a great read. I say stop with the different basketballs excuse and mythical national championships claims and just be the bada$$ she clearly is!

(Though her self-admitted insight that she is a sore loser does kind of help explain both - guess you have to take the good with the bad with people who have endless drive and little tolerance for failure! That said, one thing I've always really appreciated about Geno and Tara is both coaches, when they lose, say they deserved to lose, and credit the other team. I think being a good loser is one of the most underdeveloped skills in both coaching and in life, and they are, IMHO, both role models in that respect.)

Yes, but to be clear regarding your comments, Dawn does credit the other team often when her team loses, and Geno has found other ways over the years to show his "soreness" at losing, whether it be games or recruiting battles, or some other peeve. Being "sore" at losing games, is not the same thing as refusing to credit opponents for bringing about those losses. Some "coaches" have been known to show off their lack of......discretion.....even when they are constantly winning....

Argh! I'm so sick and tired of ESPN's pro-UConn media bias! As the wise commentator Muffet McGraw mused, no wonder Dawn says it's "us against the world"! /s

In all seriousness, Dawn's great and so is the article (despite her recent playing of footsie with the aforementioned quitter).

SC has been playing very well for the past few weeks and will be very tough to beat from here on out. I don't see any SEC team coming close to them. The second and third weekends of the NCAA tournament will be the only real tests.

Why the " " around coaches? Who are these coaches who aren't really coaches who win constantly?

Huh? What are you talking about? If you have specific information to back up this accusation, I'm sure we'd all like to hear it.

Pull up a chair everyone.

Pretty awesome article. Coach Staley is an inspiring coach and is doing a great job at South Carolina. I really loved her coach job at Temple and what she is doing at South Carolina is just as remarkable. I remember when she got the South Carolina gig, folks were talking about how "She is in over her head!" or "She can't recruit especially at a school like South Carolina" and my all time favorite "She can't coach". Like these so-called experts forgot that she was already coaching at Temple and did a great job there.

Also, with sending with her sending a piece of the Championship net to every Black coach in the D1. Some folks even said that what she was doing was "Foolish". Nobody commented on her sending the replica trophies to all of her former players. But it just speaks volumes to the type of person Coach Staley is and her authentic self. She is a classy person and coach.
