3 years ago we had limited talent, limited experience and were out toughed by our opponents. This year we had upperclassmen with limited talent, but had the experience and toughness to make up for it. The perfect example of this is Whaley, who became and excellent defender and rebounder but didn’t have the offensive skill set to play back to the basket which was a limitation. This year we had underclassman with exceptional talent but limited experience. They showed signs of toughness but not full maturation 3 years in the program can bring. Dre, Sanogo, Bouk and Gaff have all flashed their talent at varying degrees of consistency but all need simply more reps. When our upper classmen are both experienced, tough and elite talent and our underclassman remain equal to what they are today we’ll be fully back. This is why the indictments on Hurley as a coach ignoring our 3 year trend and fixating on this year as if it’s a ceiling are out of bounds. If in 2 more years we’re still a fringe tourney team those conversations may be warranted, but now they’re absurd. It’s tough being a UConn fan these days but not because of our Kids or Coach. The entitlement and vitriol on this board is over the top and elevated from years past IMO. It’s always been bad after losses and especially season ending. But the criticism after wins in the context of the trend of the program is head scratching. Some of you sound like Kentucky fans. And they are decidedly the worst fanbase in sports. Don’t become Kentucky fans.
