Population: 2.9mil

Texas AM @ Mississippi State 61K +

Alabama @ Ole Miss expecting overflow crowd of 62K or so.

Obviously there will be people from out of state by theoretically a little over 4% of the state's population inside two stadium today. Pretty nuts.

Not telling how many are in The Grove at Ole Miss that just party all game long and watch the game out there. My brother is there and has been there since 6:30 this morning for a game at 2:30pm.

Go Ole Miss, beat Bama!

Check out the attendance for two schools (especially Ole Miss) over the past number of years. Even with a mediocre product, attending games has always been a priority for many in the state. Supposedly for Ole Miss games, making a fashion statement (often by wearing cocktail dresses) is the thing to do for the young ladies in attendance.

Among the things more of our fanbase needs to grasp is that the games (including the tailgating) are an event worthy of the required time and cost even of the on field product is less than what we would like. Once we figure that part out we can become something of substance as a football program.

Still think UCONN should allow longer tailgating times before the game. Why not six hours.

Numerous people already complain on here that people are way too drunk inside the stadium. Although at some of these large schools with huge stadiums I can't imagine this is something that only happens at Uconn.

The stated reason in the past has been security at Pratt.

I spent two years in the south going to games. I've never been to Ole Miss but it looks incredible.

There is something limiting about have an off campus stadium. It's great traffic and convience wise - but it also gives it a professional feel that makes what you are talking about harder. The whole experience has a different vibe.

It's also different when you are bad and hosting SEC or even ACC teams and when you are bad and hosting Temple and Memphis.

They have to attend the game if they want to see it. It's Mississippi; half of them don't have electricity at home.

There's a distinct cultural difference between the South and Southern New England. That culture won't fly up here.

It's conceivable that both MS teams will be in the top 5 on Monday. They certainly should be if the voters have been watching the games.

Would be nice if it happened, but both would have to leapfrog Florida St, Auburn, Baylor, UCLA(assuming a win later tonite) and Notre Dame. Don't bet on it.

ESPN reports the goal posts were not only walked to the Grove but ended up in a student's apartment.

Good stuff.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...under-ncaa-investigation-for-rules-violations

Ole Miss is under investigation by the NCAA for violations committed by the football and women's basketball team. Sources told the site that the latter program is the focus in the probe, but the previous football staff -- which would point to former head coach Houston Nutt -- is also a subject of the investigation.

Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork confirmed that the school "is working with the NCAA" in an ongoing investigation, but they have not received a formal Notice of Allegations from the NCAA.

Notably, current Rebels head coach Hugh Freeze is not believed to be implicated in any major violations per the report.

This is not the first time Ole Miss has been in hot water with the NCAA over rules violations. The football program was nailed for major violations in 1994, 1986 and 1959.

It is unknown how the revelation of an investigation will impact the current football team but, based on previous NCAA case timelines, it's likely any potential sanctions would come down after the 2014 season.

Ole Miss has predictably issued a no comment statement

there's a reason they're like that in football, and they are not good reasons.

And there also is a reason why we are in our current conference realignment plight.

As long as the lion's share of UConn alumni (and state residents for that matter) believe that it is beneath them to be actual college football fans we'll be looking up at P-5 schools.

Keep that in mind when our inability to support a football program eventually destroys every other athletic program the university fields. Fortunately for me (I'm in my mid 50's) I'll be quite old by the time our fans are recalling with nostalgia the days when out men's basketball program was actually as good as any other in he NCAA. Those a couple decades younger than me will instead be recalling our glory years the way Houston fans reminisce about Phi Slamma Jamma.

How does a school that stinks commit violations? Or is that they stink at cheating too?

For every football season since 1979 (yes, 1979) at least one SEC school has been on some form of probation (or at least under some sanctions) for football violations. The conference wears that as a badge of honor.
