Ole Miss is under investigation by the NCAA for violations committed by the football and women's basketball team. Sources told the site that the latter program is the focus in the probe, but the previous football staff -- which would point to former head coach Houston Nutt -- is also a subject of the investigation.
Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork confirmed that the school "is working with the NCAA" in an ongoing investigation, but they have not received a formal Notice of Allegations from the NCAA.
Notably, current Rebels head coach Hugh Freeze is not believed to be implicated in any major violations per the report.
This is not the first time Ole Miss has been in hot water with the NCAA over rules violations. The football program was nailed for major violations in 1994, 1986 and 1959.
It is unknown how the revelation of an investigation will impact the current football team but, based on previous NCAA case timelines, it's likely any potential sanctions would come down after the 2014 season.
Ole Miss has predictably issued a no comment statement
