Sorry if this was posted before and I missed it, but the local paper in Georgia had a nice little 'get to know them' piece on the top local players.

Looks like this kid's going to be able to bang a little for us down low, no?

From the Article:

Rakim Lubin

#School: Buford

#Class: Senior

#Height: 6-8

#Age: 18

#Nickname: Rock

#Place of birth: Miami

#College choice: Connecticut

#Twitter handle: N/A

#Favorite teacher: Casey Laws

#Aside from myself, the best current Gwinnett high school basketball player is: Buford’s D’Marcus Simonds

#How many states have you played basketball in?: 22

#Best way to wind down after a game: A good meal and a game of NBA 2K14

#Favorite NBA team: Miami Heat

#If I had a shoe deal, it would be with: Jordan Brand

#My perfect meal would be: Steak and lobster

#Best-looking celebrity: Eva Mendes

#Sport I’m best at besides basketball: Football

#Noteworthy: Lubin moved to Buford from Gadsden City (Ala.) in May after earning second-team Class AAAAAA all-state honors in Alabama last season, when he averaged 19.6 points and 9.2 rebounds. The physical player — he carries a muscular 250 pounds on his 6-8 frame - will make be a difference-maker quickly for the Wolves.

#Coach Allen Whitehart’s take: “Rakim Lubin is 6-8, 250 pounds, but don’t let the size fool you, he is one of the best athletes I have had the privilege to coach. He is big, fast and strong. He is also very competitive and loves to be challenged. I am excited to see what his senior season holds. We expect big things out of him this season.”

Rakim really is going to be a rock when he gets on campus, at 250 he already looks pretty sculpted. He's just what we need for next year, we already have the players with length, now we are adding some serious muscle.

I'm impressed by Rock from what I've seen so far. Can't wait to have him in a UConn uniform!

Anyone know if he signed his LOI yet?

Somehow I think of Chevy Troutman bullying the UCONN front line years ago.

You missed his best answer:

Twitter handle: n/a

I was literally just about to post the exact same thing. Twitter usage for an athlete has basically no upside and tremendous downside.

On the basketball side, I really hope Lubin is the answer to our rebounding woes. He has the size, and hopefully he has the intensity/desire/instincts to go with it.

Wow! When I was growing up most boys had peach fuzz for a mustache. In high school shaving wasn't even considered as there was nothing to shave. Nowadays I see full mustaches and even beards. I don't even want to see their chests.

Is our food source healthy these days?

hormones in our food... puberty starts much earlier now than it did even 20 years ago.

their season starts on 11/23, hopefully the nutbags on this board didn't turn her away. either way they have alot of coverage for the HS basketball scene in that area, we'll be able to track him through news/online outlets.

Trying to think of "Rock and Block" catch phraise for him and Brimah...
Between a rock and hard case?

Imagining the Thabeet & Adrien days where, Adrien locked the defender down from getting deep post position, Thabeet was behind Adrien to swat the shot away, as Adrien stood his ground, arms up & rebounded the blocked shot. Could we have that again with Brimah & Rock? I'm not sure, but it certainly sounds possible! Hey, a guy can dream! :)

She came along right around the time the board went psychotic about Kasongo, probably making her feel her son was not very appreciated in Huskyland. While I doubt that this is a very good place for parents of players to hang out, it was too bad as she represented her son well.

I don't know why, but that sounds creepy. :D
