No surpises here in a recession

Rentschler Field had a $2.4 million operating loss in the fiscal year ending June 2011 as the home venue for University of Connecticut football continues to hemorrhage money.
The 40,000-seat sports and entertainment venue has lost money each of four years through 2011 for a total of $9.3 million,

Hey that's good news, maybe the state will sell the facility to UConn, and we won't be "Rent"ers anymore.

Nice timing on the article. Leave it to the Courant to figure out how to rain on a parade.

If you read closely, almost all of the yearly loss is simply depreciation on the building. That's not exactly an "about to go belly-up" type issue.

Need that 8th home game like Michigan, Penn State, Clemson. None of that small time stuff about only having 7 home games every season. Oh crap . . . . .

As I noted - the state accounting is showing a loss for Rentschler? Really???? Let me take a moment to take a deep breath and compose my poker face.

Hey Susan.......Madame Pres - check the bank accts - get the financing, let's buy the ducker from the state.

But whenever they hold another event there, Yarders go ballistic.

Every event they've held there has drawn really well.

I dunno, it's almost like they should USE THE FACILITY MORE OFTEN or something.

Yup, I have no faith in the Bushnell. They started selling tickets to two soccer games this summer and cancelled both.

And what about it's use as an emergency staging base for the National Guard? How much was that worth?

What a stupidly headlined article. So they really lost 200+k in 2011 and they're owed 200+k by the Hartford Hockey Club. Granted, money owed is likely accounted for in 2012 budget but hmmmmmmm.

It's like a rotating group of morons managing the place the last 5 years.

That's it. They need to talk to East Hartford about the noise abatements and usage. Granted many big artists are avoiding stadiums this year (in a recession)

$10 a ticket increase would do it too. That's also recession related.

I am shocked that 6-7 football games, a couple soccer games and high school football championship games don't cover the expenses for the other 350 or so days a year the faciliuty needs to be maintained. New flash....get some big time events there and something called revenue will be created.

Funny thing is they will probably book a big concert, but will schedule it the Thursday night before a home football game.....

Do they? There was moaning after the Springsteen concerts but they had the Stones and Police there since with little fuss.

Can we move it to Storrs then?

Maybe BCU should play there. They would probably get more fans and State of CT could make some cash.

They cancelled that second soccer game too? What a joke!
