>>Schools in the states of California and Oregon still have not been cleared by public health officials to resume contact practices, let alone games. The league's presidents and chancellors wouldn't consider a vote to return until that status changes. Ideally, the Pac-12 would like its teams to have six weeks to practice and physically prepare for the season, the source said.

To get to a mid-November start between now and when the tests arrive, the Pac-12 would have to be cleared by public health experts, the source said. Late November could be more realistic considering the double crisis with the pandemic and wildfires that continue to singe the Pacific Northwest.<<

It's funny as i don't think any of the country west of Texas even cares if the Pac 12 plays football or not. They've really become irrelevant in the national college football psyche.

They were probably the biggest loser among the top leagues in the reorganization of college football. Even more so than the B12. The teams they added are meh. Their games are played so late most of the county misses them and they Really have not had a great team in a while. Plus everybody plays PAC style football now so they aren’t even different now. And Oregon has shown that uniforms I let go so far when you lose big games. What seems cool and hip when you win appears kind of silly when you don’t.

The late start will exclude them from the playoffs. Kinda deflating if they have a good team this year. Tulane, Temple, BC, Duke, Wake Forest, Rice, and Vanderbilt are more serious about football than USC and Oregon. What an bizarro world!

California does not appear (today) that it will be that easy... you really need to read this:

Must have realized how stupid the earlier explanation sounded when read aloud:

The trains have left the stations. All teams serious about football will develop the rationale and plan to play it in some form this season. The transfer portal floodgate is not a good alternative nor are AD layoffs due to declining revenues. Most schools are smart enough to figure things out like most businesses have had to do and make things safely work.

This report is a calming device. The virus is going to spike in the fall and close everything down again. No one is playing football in November.

I don’t disagree - still very much a possible outcome for sure.

>> Once that date is set — if a date is set — the training camp calendar will be established.“They have to designate that they’re going to have a season and pick a start date before everything else can be formalized,” a source said.

The conference medical advisors believe players need six weeks of preparation, with a two-week ramp period followed by four weeks of full-contact training camp and practice.

There is some discussion within the conference about shortening the period of preparation to five weeks. However, several sources expect the presidents to lean on the medical advisors for guidance, pointing to a total of six weeks.<<

While a real possibility, its hard to predict and say with certainty. Do you think the NFL will shut down also?

First it was September, then it was October, now it is November. Same people same rhetoric just keep moving the dates.

but what's really funny is that no one outside of this message board even cares if UConn plays football or not.

Why didn't it spike in the southern hemisphere then?

Just because you think it will doesn't mean it will. Sometimes I think some of you want this to come back. smh

Reasonable or otherwise reflecting varying perspectives, decreased flu #s in some Southern Hemisphere nations potentially linked to social distancing, lockdowns at times, quality masks, hand cleaning, etc. may have contributed to decreases in such nations’ SARS-2 cases. Other nations, not so much, e.g., Brazil. Flu examples in The Economist article I tried to share via Outline.com
