I mean, come on, how bloody stupid do you have to be? Look, I get that the WNIT was added by an outside vendor with the NCAAs blessing to get more programs postseason experience. What I didn't know was that the NCAA pays for the Men's Travel for the NIT but does not do the same for the women. Seriously, how does Mark Emmert have a job?

All I can do is shake my head....

WNIT is an independently owned tournament and not run by the NCAA - it is owned by Triple Crown Sports, a for profit business. So whatever anybody is complaining about the WNIT like a certain coach, they should at least have a clue what they are talking about.

That was LITERALLY the point in posting it. NCAA owns the men's tournament, they pay for flights, etc. - NCAA does NOT own the Women's tournament and thus, inequitable circumstances. Also, the women have to rely on financing from their own athletic departments for it too, which creates another burden.

Yes, I just read the history of the NIT. Fascinating. The NCAA purchased it because they were being sued on an anti-trust basis (that, by expanding the field and forcing teams to play in the NCAA Tournament they were illegally acting against the NIT) and having lost 2 previous lawsuits (only one about assistant coach salaries did I know about) they opted to settle and purchased it.

As I saw noted somewhere, TV revenue probably pays much of what the NCAA does for the schools. The NIT gets decent coverage on TV.

To the extent it is inequitable, yes, it is. Unfortunately, it is owned by a private company, as noted. How, exactly, legally, do you force a private company to use funds it doesn't have to benefit the participating teams? And I don't think the NCAA can be forced to operate a WNIT that features 28 of the 63 games having less than 1000 fans and only 6 games whose attendance exceeded the worst attended NCAA session (excluding First Four).

I'm all for equity, but not sure of the practicality here.

If people really press this issue I suspect the NCAA will find a private company to buy the NIT - they bought it to stop lawsuits, they will sell it for the same reason. But I am unsure there is a legal case - the NCAA sponsors 26 national championships and the spending per sport and the revenues are very different.
