Some time ago there was a post asking which accomplishment would be seen as Coach Geno's greatest. I think there was a "none of the above" that got a lot of votes.
But UConn's victories in the first two games of this season have to go down as one of Geno's finest accomplishments. UConn had no business whatsoever beating Baylor and Florida State. This is the team that returned only two starters, and one of them was out of the NC game, and UConn still won by thirty. It was playing essentially with the second string from last year's team. They have almost no height. And they were playing two teams that were big, experienced, and determined. Yet Coach Geno Auriemma found a way to knit these second-team kids to together, get them ready for the start of the season, and imbue them with the fight and determination to win on the road, and to beat what could be the top-rated team in the nation.
Simply amazing!!!
So not only did he beat two of the nation's best, and tallest, teams, but he also managed to extend the second-longest winning streak in basketball history. Kim Mulkey must have been the most surprised and shocked person on earth at the end of the game. I'd be willing to bet that she had already chalked up a win in this game, even last April.
Sorry, but it was simply amazing!!
