Almost 50 years after it was signed into law in 1972, the long term effects of this enlightened legislation were never more visible than in these recent Olympics. The USA women won 25 more medals than our men, 66-41, and this is the fourth straight summer Olympics where that occurred! Generations of women will continue to reap its rich harvest, with an ever increasing vast multitude of girls being inspired to participate in sports from the beginner level, through grammar schools, and into high schools in all different formats and then as college athletes where the opportunities lay waiting. It was a quiet revolution at first but no longer. To see Sue and DT featured on NBC nightly news, to watch our 4x400 relay team crush the opposition (none of our runners even run that distance without hurdles), or to have a duel between McLaughlin and Muhammad be a feature of the entire Olympics, or to see our volleyball teams, you are in awe of the sounds of their successes and the continued march through history.
