The Hangings

Your Judge is not blind. I have more wisdom in my little finger than a thousand Pranksters. And, over time, these hangings have eroded away. My Hangman seems to have retired away somewhere in Del Boca Vista. And the new Yard doesn’t have any concept of history here and wouldn’t know a Dogfather if he bit them in the leg.

Nevertheless, it’s a crucial piece of a title formula so we trudge on.

Your guilty errr accused Yarders this run are @WeAreUCONN and @Tenspro2002.

The Mojo is a fickle mistress and when you get into March, you better be mindful. Or at the very least, you don’t come on the Yard and brag about betting against us for profit and rooting for Duke and Slick Ricky Pitino. Even the Wizard of Westwood is looking down at us and wincing at those moves.

As for the sentence? There is none. I don’t have a hangman and this new breed of poster doesn’t listen or care. So this year I leave it to Boneyard vigilante justice. If you want to draw and quarter them? Have at it. If you don’t? It’s not on me. You know what they say. It’s not the arrows, it’s the Indian. And I just gave you the arrows. And this will turn out one of three ways:
  1. You’ll attack them with the heat of a thousand suns and scorch our way to a threepeat.
  2. You’ll be tepid and apathetic and eventually around the Elite Eight, you’ll catch on. Or;
  3. This post will slide off the page by tomorrow and I’ll get blamed when we lose.
I’d like to bet on 1, I know 2 is more likely but if I’m really putting my reputation at stake here? I know in my heart it’s 3. And I’m good no matter what you choose.

Your Judge has spoken. The rest is up to you. We are pushing a mighty boulder up a steep mountain and this is the only time in your lives we will be in position for a threepeat. You’ve come here day after day, year after year, title after title. Don’t waste that chance.

Taking the points on the road is one thing.

But wishing Duke to tie us in rings?! Scrap the hanging, @WeAreUCONN should be drawn & quartered in public. Then each individual body part should be sent down the river to Durham NC like us natives used to do back in the King Phillips War.

I don't know if the condemned get to speak at their own sentencing, but there is a universe of difference between:
A) betting against your own team for financial gain (while still rooting for them), and
B) rooting for St. John's or, God forbid, Duke (really hoping that post was out of context, because that is a whole other level of egregious)

Its all fun and games until someone tosses out a reference to the dismemberment of the warrior Chief Metacomet. The mojo is strong.

If the town of Simsbury must burn for us to get #7, then so be it.

After the head of @WeAreUCONN is on a pike, we shall ascend to the Cave, and watch the town engulf in flames.

Anyone claiming that Duke winning a title is a consolation prize must be hung, with their pants off.
Get out the ropes.

No way we can let someone get away with rooting for a Dook Natty.

Nope.

If you’re rooting for a spread, you’re rooting against them playing their best game possible. You’re a traitor.

Let's get real here. Nobody is burning down a town or lopping off limbs.

Is a tournament banning appropriate? Having been banned a lot during non-tourney times, it's certainly annoying, but it's not personally embarrassing. We need humiliation.

There have been numerous sentences which I believe have resulted in appropriate humiliation and suffering. Forcing an avatar or signature change for the duration of the tourney is a long accepted tradition and one that serves a daily reminder of the crime, not dissimilar to Hester Prynne having to wear the scarlet A. It then comes down to what we deem is something that would be truly embarrassing to live with and invite daily scorn. Much as it would be delightful to see an avatar of WeAreUConn sniffing a gameworn Cooper Flagg jockstrap, that would likely not pass through BY Standards & Practices, so we'll have to discuss what's both appropriate and "family-friendly".

There is also the option of sentencing the accused to an act they will consider a humiliating punishment and one which we would all enjoy seeing. In the case of WeAreUConn, such a sentence may be something like requiring him to buy a Duke hat and a large jar of Duke's mayo, put all the mayo in the hat, then livestream him wearing that mayo-dripping hat throughout Duke's first game, and potentially all subsequent Duke games. That is easily more painful than ADub having to eat a turkey and ketchup sandwich.

I haven't thought of anything for Tenspro yet. That's a bit more challenging since there's a lot of sympathy on the BY for Shaneen's plight, along with general apathy for Seton Hall as an institution. So it will require a different kind of humiliation than someone aligning themselves with the hated Dookies.

One thought I had was that he has to buy one of these for $3, put it on his car, and post daily photos of his car in different locations with the sticker visible. But I'm open to any other suggestions.

Perhaps vigilante justice can be that everyone ignores them during the Tournament run.

There are times when the better path to Justice is a form of clemency (keep in mind, everything has a cost), where instead of facing execution, the culprit is left to live a long, lonely life, awash in the shame of what he did.

We know who the culprits are and the depths of depravity that they sunk to. We also know that we are obviously above them.

What punishment can be more damning than having them continue to walk the earth (peruse the Boneyard in this case) labelled with the scarlet letters (a color all roo far removed from blue) that they've earned, living with the shame their actions caused for eternity.
