I know that a lot of Boneyarders are doom and groomers about the future of UConn athletics (and the Big East). I, however, am not. At least in the short term (5-10 years), UConn will continue to compete for national championships. With rumors that all 11 Big East schools will spend at a minimum $4 million per year on NIL to the top end of $8 million per year, that fact should propel the Big East to the #3 basketball league at a minimum (ahead of the Big 12 and ACC). With SEC and Big Ten schools spending $3-4 million per year, there is a legitimate possibility that the top 5 MBB NIL budgets will all reside in the Big East (UConn, St. John's, Villanova, Georgetown, Creighton).

A big part of competing is money and the Big East will have it for now. Also, the NCAA tournament will likely expand to 76 schools next year. While I am personally not a fan of this, this means that at a bare minimum the league will send five teams to the Big Dance every year with six probably being the average with an occasional seventh. The Big East schools have no problems scheduling P4 schools home and home or getting into high-profile MTEs. I also expect at some point in the near future a Big East-ACC challenge as the two leagues look to navigate the future.

Overall, I think we are well positioned in the interim.

Where did you get these NIL numbers or is that a guess? St. John’s and UConn at 8 million? Duke had 1 player at 5 million.

From an article about Seton Hall basketball. It’s in another thread.

We've been in trouble since 2013. Nothing is going to change the thinking of Debbie Downers, it's their life's blood

Success be damned, they know better. I just smile and enjoy the ride

Did you know? We have like the 2nd best class in the country and arguably the best class in uconn history coming in

Doomed I tell you, no other plausible explanation

Quite honestly I'm not sure when our future never looked bright, including the days of AAC and even when other conferences rejected us.

Something about UConn only we can understand. In fact I've not seen one poster post a thread of jealousy and envy towards other teams.

Based on our history our future will always be forward and always chasing and grabbing Trophies. We have a lobby that constant hardware upgrades for the showcases. The women and us are one in the same ship with same Championship destination!

A destination we know all too familiar but other teams never reach. NIL money or not Hurley adds value that can't be priced (just ask the Lakers).

The OP is right on in that success will be driven by access to money. I don't know how anyone can know what the future brings for two reasons. First, where are payrolls headed? There is a scenario where they continue to increase significantly from where they are today. Second, the NIL money appears to be very discreet (surprisingly so). How does anyone know how reliable and sustainable those sources are over any period of time?

UCONN may every well have funding sources that allow for continued success, but I suspect very few folks know who and where those sources are.
