Even if we lose to Pitt, I'm still gonna be quietly confident going into the BET.
We're still the defending Big East champs. We owned the Garden last time we're there and we haven't been back since. This is a tournament of storylines, and we have a pretty good one going for us.
Nothing about this season has gone right, but I have no reason to think we'll come out flat and get bounced our first game in New York. Looking back at this season, two things jump out at me: our inability to stop the road team from making a sudden run, and the feel that most pivotal breaks go against us. I'm not saying those aren't a big deal, but put this team away from a true road environment and I see no reason why we can't hang with anyone in the BET through the end of the game. Avoid some of the ridiculous bad breaks we've been getting, and I see no reason why we can't string a few wins together.
And I get it...we've looked awful since mid-January. The offense is stagnant, there's no 3 point defense, and sometimes the late game hustle isn't apparent. All I'm saying is this is a tourney where Seton Hall is getting a bye..USF is getting a bye..and a Notre Dame team that has looked awful at times is getting a double-bye.
Nothing about playing any of these teams at a neutral site is daunting to me--so what if we're not daunting to them either. I'm kind of excited to see what happens next week, we've already seen it all this year so maybe the team will mess with our heads some more. If not, hell, it can't be worse than last night (or St. Johns in 2010)
