I have also noted that (IMHO) if Azura had started in 2017-18 or had played and started in 2018-19, UConn would have won one or two NC's in those years. Of course, I hold that opinion only with the benefit of hindsight, which Geno did not have. Even the recent loss to Arizona is really another instance of the same theme. Olivia was (to put it charitably) having a bad game, but Geno had no backup for her who could have replaced her and fulfilled the game plan, which was obviously to exploit AZ's own lack of height in the post. That, and the lack of bigs generally since 2016, may be a recruiting failure for which Geno is arguably accountable, but I don't think that is the point of your criticism of him. You seem to think that if he had been meaner and made his team meaner, he could have won with the rosters he had. I think that would have been a terrible, and a failing, strategy. I think the problem of "not enough bigs" has been solved on the 2021-22 roster, and I expect a better result, but if UConn loses to Stanford or South Carolina in the semifinal game next April, it will not be because the team wasn't mean enough.
