I know this is nothing new, but I just had to come on here and vent. The complete love about all things Duke and Coach K is absolutely sickening.

They just got embarassed in the (arguably) biggest upset in NCAA history. As a #2 seed, they got beat by Lehigh. You think Coach K might get some criticism? Nope! I actually heard on ESPN this morning one of their talking heads say how this just demonstrates how great of a coach K is and what an amazing season he put together this year. They say he took a weak Duke team with little talent and led them to the top of the ACC and a #2 seed...what an amazing job he did!

Are you kidding me? How many McD's All Americans are on that team? They get their pick of top recruits every single year. All the analysts have been saying how great they are this year and what a great team they have. And then they crap their shorts in the first round and now they say how bad of a team they have and it is amazing Coach K got them where he did.

And Duke fans wonder why everyone hates Duke and Coach K?!

It is simply amazing how they turn Coach K into a God and never criticize a thing he does. When he wins, they say how great he is (and ignore that they get the top recruits every year and play a cake OOC schedule with no true road games). And when they lose (with all of that talent), they say how horrible the talent is and Coach K is amazing for getting them where he did. It is absolutely sickening.

If Calhoun had lost as a two seed or even a 3 or 4. The media would say he is too old. lost his team, he is too old school and kids can't relate to him anymore. it is time for him to move on. this is the BS you would hear if Uconn lost when a huge favorite.

Poor Coach K. He's down to only 5 McD's All-Americans on this year's team.

most fans who aren't Duke grads seem to hate all things Duke. i wonder why there is so much media bias like that. it's almost a bit like osmosis - there are a few loud talking heads who have their respective heads up Duke's ass, so the rest of them follow suit and just absorb what they say and keep perpetuating it. or maybe they are more like lemmings. either way, it's cloying to say the least.

When it didn't count Duke beat MSU,Kansas and Carolina, so it's not like they didn't have the talent on hand. Yeah, coach K could get some flak here, but he has 4 titles so it's a bit tough to say he's an average coach.

She-chef-ski has always been a great coach. He just had a team. Maislon Plumlee were way overrated.

The guys on First Take this morning on ESPN were blaming coach K for the loss, including Jay Williams. They said Austin Rivers never should have gone to Duke because Coach K won't let him do what he wants to do. Said he should have gone to KY where Calipari would let him run the show.

WTF were they watching?? Actually if anything, Coach K DID let him do to much and the rest of the team paid for it.....Austin took stupid shots and way too many of them......nice player but a disruption to a unit used to playing like a Dukie team......plus the bigs never get better!!! ........actually of the Plumlees, somehow by years end the bigger one (Miles?) was seemingly improving a bit while the other was just a catch a dunk guy.....the bigger one who plays less may be a better pro because he's physical, will carve out minutes and contracts by banging around other centers and actually found a little back-to-the-basket game by careers end.......

One of the duties as a coach is to recruit and identify talent. Another duty is to develop talent. K failed with the three Plumlee's. Either they weren't that good to begin with, or they were maxed out talent-wise or he didn't develop them.

All coaches screw up in this reapect. No coach has a perfect record identifying, recruiting and developing players.

Nothing wrong with pointing out that Coach K screws up too.

Unfortunately very few analysts/reporters are willing to bring up the subject of the 800lb elephant.

Agreed they are scared to death. We repeatedly bring up the Joey Beards of the world who were McD AA's and never got better and the list goes on and on.....

Funny thing I had a long chat with a good friend Jay Murphy recently, former Maloney-Meriden and BC star in the 80's, and his son Alex is at Duke. You can always see him on the end of the bench with the Plumlee kid. His son Alex had some nagging injuries early on and decided to redshirt plus he's a very young freshman. Anyway with his background and knowledge he and his wife totally adore K, I mean to the point I would have never guessed. Jay is a great guy, his other kid is still in it at Florida and playing very well. I really would have thought the history would have told himnot to let his son play for this guy because unless you're really special, you don't get a lot better. But parents think otherwise and are mesmerized by his personna. I hope his son gets a chance and plays well and I fully expect he will.

By the way on a side note, Jay coach's his 13 year olds team, he's a 6'6" size 16 13 yr old and dunks easily with 2 hands in the AAU circuit.......says he is the biggest at his age than even he....Jay was 7', Erik is 6'10 and Alex 6'8"............I doubt you'll see him in Storrs let's put it that way!!

To be fair, I think some guys have become McD AAs simply because K was recruiting them. How many of them have faded from sight before they've even graduated? Countless. K is a very good coach. However, is image is accentuated by the media and the fact that he gets home games for the first two games of the Tourney every year.

Agreed he is a good coach but these guys may have not been good enough to be McD AA's but they were good enough to make them into very good players, he and his staff of xourse. But very few are!!

Duke has talent, but they were undone to a large degree by their backcourt.

Curry and Rivers are both good player, but putting them on the same team turned out to be something of a mistake.

K ended up with two players who need the ball and who were very poor at sharing it. It's amazing but Seth Curry led Duke in assists at 2.4 per game. Rivers had about 2.1 per game and collectively, the two of them had an A/T ratio of about 1:1.

The Plumlees are fine for what they are - somewhat limited, but perfectly useful front court players. Miles isn't great, but Mason is pretty good - averaged near a double-double.

But in the end, they really need a point guard - K is a great coach, but he made a mistake in putting this team together. He needed a kid who would play defense, hit about five assists per game and be happy with that.

Other than 2010 Duke has struggled mightily in the NCAA tournament compared to what they used to achieve. Of course in 2010 they won the entire thing.

2010 for Duke was somewhat like 2011 for UConn--things broke perfectly. They didn't have to face a one seed that would kill them (in 2010 that was Kansas or Kentucky--2011 it was likely Kansas or Ohio State that UConn would have matched up poorly with).

Unlike UConn--whose bracket sort of fell apart (although I think they beat Duke), Duke's didn't, but they had an absurdly bad bracket. Their 4 seed was a Hummel-less Purdue, their 2-seed was a tanking Villanova. And then in the Final Four they got a West Virginia team that I thought was quite good--and they whupped them (even before Butler's injury).

It was a great run by a team that wasn't the best team, but for whom the stars aligned. Frankly, if K had passed Smith by that time, he should have retired.
