Even though we played a crummy game (execution, playcalling, clock management), we're operating at a high enough level where we could still eke out a win. There will be many issues discussed ad nauseam in the coming hours, but while you do so, pause for a second and consider this:

A) We just equaled our win total for 2013 and 2014 COMBINED.

B) We are at .500 after the 10-game mark for the first time since 2010.

In the moment, we see the and the miscalls and amplify them, which is in some cases justified. But in the grand scheme, things are getting better. We're beating teams that we're supposed to beat. Looking good while doing so will come with time.

Last year we get a punt blocked and returned for a touchdown late in the 4th.

Winning begets winning, and getting used to closing out games is important.

That said, we have light years to go to have this program looking P5 worthy.

That's a game we 100% lose last year
Wasn't this the same exact mess last year except Tulane won? I know they won, just both offenses were terrible as well.

That was the USF game 2014. Different result...progress.

Difference was last year the coaches didn't game plan to win.

This year there was a definite plan to pin Tulane and make them drive. Weather was the 12th and 13thbdefender today.

Thanks to weather many of us UConn fans were front row on the 50 yard line. Diaco was constantly reminding Wain- One step and kick. Distance, aim, direction be damned. Get the ball off and make them drive.

We're on the way up, win is win, build the coinfidence and continue to get his people in there , we need a line to protect the QB

You think our defense played crummy? Our defense played an elite game and the staff called a perfect game on that side of the ball.

Hard to judge the offense in that weather. It seemed to be heavy rain the entire game.

I've said this in other threads, it had 2014 USF written all over it. But this team played differently. The weather effected both teams, but the team was prepared and ready to fight to the finish. They ultimately eek'd out the win, back to .500 with their sights set on bowl eligibility. For the first time in a long time, this team really has something significant and important to play for.

Took care of the ball this time around too. Only UConn turnover was BS's Hail Mary at the end of the half.

Not only was the weather a big factor, but the fact that we were nursing a lead the majority of the game meant we were going to play it close to the vest. It was clearly a field position game in those conditions. Last thing we needed 2nd half was a bonehead turnover on our side of the field.

High enough level? The offense didn't score a point. Tulane sucks. A win is a win, I agree, but this gives you confidence?

let's see how they do in the next 2 games, especially Houston at home with a bowl game on the line. I can't see Shirreffs scoring enough even if the defense plays well.

I don't see how beating a terrible Tulane team when your offense can't even score a point is a high level of anything.

Just knowing that you disagree with me confirms that I am right.

Shirreffs did enough, given the conditions, for the team to win the game. I recall 21 other bodies on the field. It's not all on Shirreffs.
