Folks, I usually do not post topics. I'm fine with simply responding to topics. However, after seeing this article about Lauren Betts, I felt compelled to post it. Please--if you have time and want to learn more about one of the most fascinating and charismatic young women we have in our game today, read the article. It's insightful.

The accounts from Lauren, from elementary school (where she was bullied) to last year's season at UCLA (which would be considered a success by most measures) are eye opening and serve as a reminder that what you see on the court may not (check that--does not) tell the full story. If you're a fan of Lauren (I would consider myself to be in this category), you'll want to read about the transformation she's undergone to become of one of the newest faces of WCBB. And if you're an advocate of mental health, you'll want to see how someone who seemingly has everything from a basketball standpoint can feel that she has accomplished nothing.

This is a REALLY good read. Don't see a lot of in-depth pieces like this in our new world of sound bite social media snippets.

Thanks for posting this.

That’s a great article. I remember reading a story from her junior or senior year in high school and thinking that she seemed like a really nice person to be around.

This piece just reinforces that you can think someone has it all, but you have no idea what’s going on inside them.

I like Tara Vanderveer, but my only reaction to the one or two sentences she said in this article is, “really?”

What I would find fascinating, is to do retro interviews of Griner, Lobo, Walters, and others, to compare the pressures during their playing time, whether there was no social media (Lobo, Walters) and then when it existed (Griner).

On edit - I ache for her experiences in MS/HS. And I'm deeply disheartened at how Stanford dealt with her situation. And it's incredibly brave that she shared her experiences at UCLA last year,
