BIG EAST Tournament History: First meeting
Up Next: St. Johns gets No. 1 UConn at Noon on Saturday (FS1)
Due to various team pauses, St. John’s and Xavier did not meet during the 2020-21 regular season, making Friday’s showdown the first between the two since March 1, 2020. Xavier (5-9, 2-8 BIG EAST) ended the season on a high note, knocking off Georgetown on Senior Day at Cintas Center, 58-48. St. John’s (7-14, 4-12) has dropped its last two games, ending the regular season with a 59-43 setback to Seton Hall. Players to watch include Xavier’s A’riana Gray, who has led the Musketeers in scoring the last three games, averaging 18.0 points per contest during that stretch, and St. John’s Leilani Correa, who was just voted to the All-BIG EAST First Team after finishing the regular season averaging 18.0 points per game. The Red Storm and Musketeers have never met in the BIG EAST Tournament. Xavier eyes its first postseason win since the 2015 BIG EAST Tournament First Round, while St. John’s has advanced in each of the last two seasons.
