Through nearly 20 years of friendship, Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi are still bringing out the best in each other
From college and Team USA teammates to WNBA rivals, Bird and Taurasi have set a gold standard for friendship and play.

Auriemma, who has watched the basketball evolutions of Bird and Taurasi from college to the pros to Team USA (he coached them from 2009-16), says what sets them apart and keeps them going is one shared trait.
“I think they have something that is rare and unique today: They really, really love the game of basketball, and it shows every time they play,” Auriemma says. “I don’t know if that’s the case with a lot of players today. (Sue and Diana) love the game. They watch the game. They talk about the game. They study the game.
“They are the kind of kids you want on your team because they are going to keep getting better. They are never satisfied. They always want to get better.”
