It’s officially official: The UConn women’s basketball program has signed five members of its 2020 signing class, the school announced Wednesday. Paige Bueckers, Mir McLean, Aaliyah Edwards, Nika Muhl, and Piath Gabriel had all previously announced their verbal commitments to UConn. But with the early signing period beginning Nov. 13 and ending Tuesday, each recruit was finally able to sign her national letter of intent, setting into stone her college choice. (from The Hartford Currant)
Aaliyah Edwards and Nika Muhl are two of the most competitive players to suit up for the UConn women’s basketball team in years, according to Geno Auriemma. “These are two kids,” the Hall of Fame coach explained Thursday on Zoom, “that are really exceptionally physical and intense and play really hard. They want to try to win every single thing that they do.” (Geno quote from CT insider interview 11/20/20)
And what a duo they have been this season! Both in contention for player of the year awards in their respective positions, both garnering personal recognition, showing exceptional leadership and playing their best basketball of their college careers while living into the prophetic words Geno spoke above. And they aren't nearly done with their junior campaigns. There is one goal left this season and you can be sure these two will be key to achieving it. I for one have no doubt they are up for the challenge.
