Hyperbole aside ... one of the worst calls I've ever seen. Right in front of the ref!

Awful awful awful call. Then boat loses it on a no call on the other end

That call totally changed the game. At least Bazz hit the big shot to undo it. That would have been a travesty.

Worse call. This or Victor Rudd's complete shove of Giffey at the end. Which was pretty much the only way he scored the whole night.

Jealousy. Wish we had a big strong brute that could "bull" his way to the hoop.

Really bad call but the refs were more than fine this game.

Think it's a foul if a Duke player makes that block?

I agree it was a bad call unless he got him with the body. However from a coaches perspective that's not the point. As he has done in other games this year Boat stops the clock when we are ahead toward the end of the game and most of the time the refs will call that when you are jumping out at a 3 point shooter. Best to play fundamental defense and take your chances of a tough shot going in.

He jumped laterally - he was to the side of the shooter and jumped out in front of him. He didn't go into his body at all. The ball was out of the shooter's hands and the ref signaled a foul on the arm, which means he saw something that didn't happen. You can't defend any better or more fundamentally, unless maybe you want him to jump lower so that he doesn't reach the ball.

Obviously, you never played the game. Good fundamental defense given the game circumstances is not jumping at him at all; lateral or otherwise.

I've played the game. Obviously, you didn't watch the play very closely. He jumped in front of the shooter. Would have been a simple fly by, except he jumped high enough to actually get a piece of it.

If I'm remembering correctly he's actually one of the few people on here who played the game at a reasonably high level. So beyond sounding like a , you're also wrong.

He played absolutely perfect defense, went straight up, made a text book shot block and the ref made an awful call. Boat played it absolutely correctly. I understand the point your trying to make but you can't fault boat for making a great play. The fault lies with the ref who completely s hit the bed.

Boat really had 2 options. 1) do exactly what he did and jump out in front of the shooter to contest the shot and make it more difficult or 2) stand there and let him take an uncontested three. Up six with a minute to go. To a Boneyard chorus of "get a hand in his face, Boat!"

Just so happened that he timed his 40-inch vertical just right and got high enough to get a piece of the ball after it left the shooter's hands. At that point, the official took a meat cleaver to his call and just flat out it up.

Would be different if he recklessly closed out on him, which he has done before - as has Bazz and Kemba in the final seconds of the Big East Championship. But he made a great defensive play in this case. Can't do it any better.

Good fundamental defense is not challenging the shot. Got it.

I still think of the victory preserving block Boat made against BC. The little guy can jump!

I'm with you CA. I thought Boatright defended that play right. In fact there was no body contact. If anything, the ref might have been thinking he caught the shooter on the arm, which wasn't the case.

Players at the college level are knocking down threes at a pretty good clip now a days. You can't just softly guard the perimeter and hope that those shots are going to fall. I completely disagree with Chief on this one. You have to contest the 3 point shooters, but try not to jump into them, which Boatright clearly did not do. It was a bang bang type of play, unfortunately Boatwright did not get rewarded for a great defensive play.
