So who has leverage if this happens? AAC? Big 12 leftovers? Simple merger? Would a merger constitute a P5 Conference?

So Houston and.... Tulsa to the Big 12? Or does Memphis or Cinci get the nod? What about on of the Florida schools?

So... much... drama!

On a related note, if there is another casting call, should UConn even bother?

This is SEC FB media week here in BHM. That 'rumor' was quite strong both yesterday and today. It would require that either A&M agree to TX joining or the SEC change expansion rules so the vote does not have to be unanimous. When asked Jimbo said that at present A&M wants to be the only TX team in the SEC. Will be interesting to see of that changes.

Texas Tech and Oklahoma State are about to get a reality check.

Kansas burning up the phones lines to the Big10 as we speak.

Houston is obvious. West Virginia would push like hell to get Cincy and Memphis in, and both would make sense given the market size both of those teams would bring.

Last spot would either go to Tulane for the New Orleans market + geographical continuity or one of the Florida teams for those markets.

Either way, as @Fishy said, this is the end of the AAC.

Mike Aresco is gonna need a drink.

This would be the end of the American.
Would it though? Does their craptastic TV deal get reduced if teams leave? Basically they are just content filler for ESPN now so they don't have to broadcast more cornhole.

Maybe Aresco can pull a power move and grab a couple of Big 12 teams...

Some things to consider before we look at what conference has leverage:
  1. Do OSU/Texas Tech file a lawsuit/seek an injunction/put internal state legislature pressure on to block these moves?
  2. Is that even possible or legal?
  3. Does A&M try to block this move internally within the SEC?
That said, if I'm Aresco I'm in the phone with every remaining B12 AD I can get ahold of and offering membership. I even go so far as to contact current AAC ADs and very quietly pitch the idea of cutting the bottom of the AAC - Tulane, Tulsa, and ECU - and merging the remaining 8 AAC teams with the 8 remaining B12 teams.

It'd be met with lawsuits and mistrust, of course, but the other option is the B12 teams take Houston and Cincinnati at the least - if not Memphis and UCF too - and that's the death knell to the American.

Honestly, in either scenario it leaves UConn in an OK spot football-wise as it'd leave some teams in need of football dates and us to scoop those up.

B12 has GOR through 2025. This might also test all of those supposedly iron-clad contracts too.

Do we bother? Sounds crazy but we at least inquire. But our sports have just gotten realigned and branded with the BE and that comes with an exit fee. No way they want us without Hoops. This could benefit us regardless. Chaos and we're not a part of it unless the phone rings loudly.

I will follow-up on this: as much as this outcome would be awesome, have to wonder if the Big 10 would step in and take the two remaining AAU schools from the Big XII: Kansas and Iowa State.

Either way, it is nice not have this have any significant consequence to UConn. At worst, nothing happens. At best, the conference improves / UConn gets to regularly play better teams.

The PIVOT has pirouetted...

Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, Georgia, Florida all playing football in the same conference?

That's as semi pro of a super conference in football as you are going to get.

OR they take a Eastern partner along with Kansas.

UCF and Houston would probably be the first 2 replacements.

How much is the Big 12 worth without Texas and Oklahoma? Over $10MM per school? Don't know
