Not a great day for basketball at University of Texas.

Actually, that is a positive move for Texas. They got rid of a cheater that threw his assistance under the bus to save his own butt.

the rumors had started swirling on Friday, and everyone sees it as a positive. There were many years of people calling for RB's head, with some militantly defending him. However, the consensus was that it was time.

The guy had been coach for 17 seasons. His Texas teams played in 17 Big XII tourneys and didn't win a single one. He played in 16 NCAA tourneys and one CBI tourney. Other than the Syracuse loss in the 2003 national semis, he didn't get the Horns all that close. That's 0-34 in postseason tournaments. For that performance, his salary amounted to highway robbery.

If you were struggling to recall what a poorly coached team looks like, harken back to 1/23/10, when Texas lost to UConn in Storrs, a game in which the team's best player didn't get enough touches, where the then-#1 team looked rattled and confused.

Bottom line, no coach who's won a natty since 1990 took more than 14 seasons to do it. By 2015, Rick Barnes wasn't much closer than Texas was in 1998.

Rick was a class act all the way, but the term "good riddance" applies here nonetheless.
