18..IIRC, an early version was cut with Pete Best playing drums, but they didn't want to release that with Pete having been kicked out and Ringo their new marketing ploy. So they cut another with Ringo on drums soon after he joined. But he didn't really know it and sounded horrible, so they overdubbed someone else (Alan White sticks in my head, but I think that was too early for him to be playing sessions). So they gave Ringo something to do, possibly tambourine? An aside -- I read a book about Beatles lyrics (probably where I picked up that tidbit), and something like six of the Beatles' first ten singles had the word "Please" in them. And these polite boys were the ones parents were worried about.
