Dangerfield Set To Return Against Temple
By Dan Madigan Sports

Dangerfield’s return could not come at a more perfect time, as Temple presents a challenge to the Huskies due to their quick and talented duo of guards Feyonda Fitzgerald and Alliya Butts. Fitzgerald is scoring 17.9 points per game and averaging 7.5 assists, while Butts is scoring 15.9 points per game and has 43 steals on the season. Having Dangerfield back lightens the workload for starters Kia Nurse and Saniya Chong on both ends.

“It’s extremely helpful. Temple is a quick, fast backcourt. They know what they’re doing, they’re smart,” Nurse said of Fitzgerald and Butts. “A short guard lineup is not always fun, but Crystal does a lot of great things for us so it’s going to help us out for sure.”

I had not watched Temple before their last game against USF, but against USF they couldn't hit the ocean with a thrown stone. I suspect they are a better shooting team than that and had a bad shooting game. But they almost came back to win, so if they have a good shooting night against UConn they may present a more formidable challenge than USF. Not that I expect UConn will lose or anything though.

Bragging rights in the report from last year's game:
Temple held the latest lead for any team against the Huskies since UConn faced a two-point third-quarter deficit in a win over No. 6 Maryland on December.

I guess that's what's known as "closing the gap."-- teams competing for who can have the lead against UConn latest in the game.

If you want to beat UConn, you gotta measure wins and loses, plain and simple, not "closing the gap." There's no relativism in sports--which is why we love it.

In Biblical times, the Temple is where the population went on festival days to perform or to see sacrifices. After beating USF by 65 points and watching the Bulls slip by Temple in Philly by 4, will this be another visit to the bloody abattoir?

How bloody it will be is difficult to forsee, since Geno has a way of slowing down the blood bath for his former players and assistants. As Roger G noted, neither USF or Temple shot at all well in their contest and I doubt they can deal with UConn's inside game, so it could be a very rough one for the Owls.

Also in Greek and Roman times, temples were a place to seek refuge against the threat of greater force, since pilgrims in temples were inviolate, such as Orestes here in the Eumenides.

When the team is in Philly, does Geno have any favorite venues that he traditionally takes them to?

Friends/associates with Italian restaurants, or private homes, for a big dinner?

Years ago, when UConn was in Philly for several days (Final Four and NC game), much was written about Geno's personal selection of eateries for the team. An eclectic lineup, IIRC.

Jim's on South Street has pictures of young Geno with articles from his first championship or two. It's really neat.

Welcome to the Boneyard, as a member, Owl. My guess is you've been lurking for a while. ;)

Oh, and the next time we ALL come to Phily, you can show us the "spots." That would include Jim's of course. Enjoy tonight's game. :D

My wife and I grew up a few blocks from Geno, went to high school with him, etc. She believes last year or year before he took the team to Holy Savior (local Norristown, PA Catholic Church) and had one of his favorite Italian restaurants cater dinner.
