Zagblog updated it's earlier story. Evidently, nobody needs UConn to dissolve the Big East.

Even though it is a full voting member of the Big East, Temple cannot stop the Catholic dissolution of the conference, a source with direct knowledge told SNY.tv.
“They could not stop it,” the source said. “There’s language within the bylaws or the contracts that basically they or the football group could not stop that from happening. There’s some kind of clause pertaining to the dissolution of the league where it doesn’t apply. There’s a loophole there somewhere.”

a Loophole there somewhere?

That sounds definitive. IF YOU SCREW UConn at this stage (after we were induced to upgrade to Football BE) ... I hope you are prepared for Legal War.

My take: it's not clear. It's not clear that Temple has voting rights. It's not clear that the dissolution is simple. Taking VALUED assets like the Name & the Big East MSG tourney will not be done easily.

I like how the Marquette AD is speaking about winners of National Championships (whilst ignoring the 3 time NC).

To be fair, he was just spit-firing the differences between the remaining Big East teams and the A-10. Can't fault him there. He's right; even in its weakened state, the Big East is STILL better than the A-10 in basketball, hands down...

7 BE Basketball schools.

We have seen NotreDame & Boston College (the REAL Protagonists of this adventure) SCREW the rest of the league. We should have NO expectation that the other 7 will be christian in their approach. Would YOU take St. Bonaventure or Duquesne just because they are in the A-10>? The Big East has the power to swamp the A-10 like the ACC had financial leverage over the BE Football. Take a few select & forget the rest; let them squirm on the next level of the MAAC.

Pudge - I think there's a clear distinction between the original raid and the past few years. Originally the Big East football members were in the group and working for the group, when Miami and BC started looking out for themselves. At that time Syracuse was a reluctant partner, and once the situation became real enough Virginia Tech realized it had to look out for itself (plus they were always a better fit). From that time forward, every BE football member had one eye on the door, if not one foot out the door. Pitt, Cuse, WVU, Louisville, all gone, UConn, Cincy and USF all have their bags packed. I hold no grudge against the catholic schools for looking at their group and weighing their options. Their interests are not the same as the rest of the league, and are especially different from the incoming NNBE members.

Miami and BC screwed UConn. Period. Rutgers? even Pitt and Louisville? Maybe a little but not in the same ballpark of screwing. The remaining schools? Even less.

Um, LaSalle won it in 1954. that's only marginally less relevant at this point than Marquette's title 35 years ago. Georgetown (1984) and Villanova (1985) are only slightly more significant.

Pudge,

Why in heavens name would Big East want to take teams from the A-10? To what end? Just because you can? And how does it help UConn to be in a league which is even more divided than the current one?

The premise is this would be a basketball-only league, or perhaps some other Olympic sports, but all non-football, so the A-10 schools would seemingly be irrelevant to UConn, unless we went independent in football and placed all other sports there.
