Team reflects its leader

ON the court. Last night it was Boatright and he was so frustrated by both his personal struggle to score and his inability to effectively run offense that he didn't give a consistent effort on both ends. This frustration bled out to the rest of the team, particuarly guys that don't typically play as much. The only other 'ready' player we had last night was DeAndre who seemed to choose to save himself for offense by resting on defense on too many occasions.

Otherwise just severely undermanned. And they certainly did not quit on their coach. That is actually the exact same frustration = feeling helpless (they had NO HELP) the players exemplified on the court leaking all the way out through the TV's into the fans.

I say they get 20 wins - who says no?!

Boat really needs to sit with Ollie and get schooled on how to recognize his limitations and play effectively within. Ollie played a long time in the NBA without being that great. But he was the best at maximizing what he had. Boat is not as tall or quick as he thinks, and hasn't made the transition yet to Div 1 ball. High school you can dribble between legs, cross over in front of players, dribble behind your back, etc., and look great but at Div 1, opposing teams just yawn. Players at this level are not so easily beaten off the dribble and can recover quicker that HS basketball. Div 1 players study a lot of film and know each player in the league well. Boat has been studied in the BE and teams know how to frustrate him and essentially shut him down. Its all about adjusting your game. Bazz went through some of this last year, and many others. Its all about making the right changes to your game. If he doesn't make adjustments then it will not get better for Boat. He can't change his height but he certainly can improve the way he plays. He is a very talented player with great college potential, even electrifying but opposing players are handling him. I see it as mental and physical issues, so its up to him (and staff) to solve it.

He needs guidance on leadership, working on his tempo and utilizing his speed and hops accordingly. Bazz should be his example. Bazz could take 10-15 shots in the 1st half but he operates patiently and with precision. Boat belongs in Div 1 no doubt, but adjustments have to be made next year. Starting with humility and defensive play.

Jason Kidd was famous for the ability to switch gears, slow the game down, and set his team up to get good shots. With napier playing we looked a like
Pro team the way we got GOOD shots.All boat does is bark at deandre for a screen, where he looks him off and gets rejected in the lane. he needs to watch more basketball to transcend his scoring talent something more appropriate for his size, being a dime

All true, but in terms of last night it just boils down to the reality that he's not a PG. Really unless he can make the changes improvements you outline he may not be a starting shooting guard but instead a 'change of pace' guard that you play 25 mins when his shot is falling and 11 minutes when it is not?
