So Pulido is wearing 11. I can't see what Lawler chose.

Is there a story about how the teams were chosen? Please tell me Kevin and Geno sat down and chose, schoolyard style.

Dolson's got the stoneface look down pat. Hartley's copping an attitude, didn't expect that from her. Chong looks ready. Stewie is saying does this count as a stare? Napier's thinking, can we get this over with? Banks has the "what you got sucka" look.

I think this was an inspired idea. I can't imagine any other school, er, program that would could try to pull this off. And I am not so sure it would have worked when Jim Calhoun was coaching the men.

I would love to see the effect it will have on Wilson, Ekmark, Williams and Edwards. I think it will be thumbs up.

Used to standing alone on here, I'll go again: SOUNDS like fun for sure. BUT, I don't like the risks of injury to Our Girls. Just not worth it.....any more than those ridiculous "Ride the bouncing ball" stunts that took Hunter out of action. No, it's not sexism on my part....it's realism. And I sure as hell hope everyone, on both sides, comes thru unscathed. I'm all for making First Night fun for the fans....and I'm all for a scrimmage..........but not this.

Still giving it some thought...but it would be interesting to get some analysis from this group. Team KO has KML, Stef, Tuck, Banks, Jefferson while Geno has Stewie, Stokes, Bria, Saniya and the walkons. If those teams played each other, I think KO would in because of the front court plus KML's 3s. Honestly, I don't know much about the men's players. I think this is very interesting. Just too bad I won't be able to make it.

What is your game analysis?

They play together frequently during the summer in pick up games, don't they?

Well a couple of things, one they are not playing some dumb game unknown to them like "bouncing balls". They are playing a game they play all the time. So those to are not even close to being similar. Two, they play with guys all the time (ice even mentioned they might play with these guys during the summer). They are used to playing with quicker stronger faster players (sure probably not to this extent.) Three, injuries can happen whenever they are scrimmaging, I don't think this increases that likelihood very much at all. Four, I'm sure the guys (and girls) understand who they are playing with and will play accordingly.

injury is a complete non-issue. this is a scrimmage, these teams are friends, and the women already practice against men.

Am feeling somewhat reassured by the above comments; I was well aware that there are male practice players in a somewhat "controlled" environment, but I had not been aware that our team plays against the varsity men informally a lot.....if that's the case, this scrimmage should not pose any increased risk over that situation. I've been picturing a varsity frontcourt guy going full bore and a Jefferson somewhere between him and the basket. (MEYERS: with regard to your #4, my vision is of very competitive athletes, on both sides, playing to win.....but perhaps they will "play accordingly" as you suggest. I'll continue to hope for the best for all concerned.....and, seriously, do feel somewhat less concerned than I had been feeling......but I still don't like the risk/reward ratio.

Whatever it is in the pic she will be #20.

Yea, I don't see that. Don't think any of the guys would get any great pleasure from dunking on a woman. And I don't think Jefferson is dumb enough to step in to take a charge in that situation. I rather imagine her scurrying to get out of the way.

I don't believe they would be going all out even in a scrimmage men vs men or women vs women. They know this is just a show, doesn't mean anything. I imagine it will be more All-star like. Not a lot of "D", some tricky passes, 3 pt bombs from all over, some get out of the way and let them dunk, at about 3/4 speed. I imagine the practices would be much more intense than this.

but I still don't like the risk/reward ratio.
I think the risks are pretty low, probably lower than practice. And the reward is off the chart. Particularly for the women's recruiting. Who else does this??? Not only do women coming to UCONN get to practice against some of the best women in the country, they get to practice against men, AND they get to scrimmage on First Night with the Men's team.....in front of a few thousand (hopefully) people. Not just an afterthought to the Men's team, but basically on equal footing. That's gotta be a decent sell.

MEYERS: I'm damn near sold....and I do have those two years eligibility left. (You don't have any snake oil on your hip pocket, do ya? Or any bridges near Brooklyn you'd like to unload?)

The message sent to female recruits is that we treat our woman equally. Woman are no second class person. The new practice facility does not favor the mens team more than the woman.

Excellent point. The themes for A'Ja Wilson: (1) those players on the court will be your teammates for a few years (and they will enable you to play all games on TV, in sold-out arenas, in Final Fours, and for NC's); (2) the ones you are seated with (Courtney, Gabby, Sadie) will be with you for four years as teammates; (3) these are the ardent fans that will cheer you on; (4) this building (new practice facility) is where you will practice; (5) under the supervision of these coaches.

And, oh yeah, we expect you to help add to those banners up there on the wall. That's why we are recruiting you.

That's a tough sell!

Maybe we could get one of those indoor blimp thingees to sail around inside Gampel and drop her some t-shirts with her baby picture on them, or maybe even some pink plastic flamingos for her yard.

I think that we should get a trained pink flamingo to drop the shirt.
