Same things happened to me --coaching boys basketball--I (then) was not aggressive or demonstrative or complained much--unless one of my kids was misused or abused--I never knew how to properly "work" the refs.
Seemed that all my approaches were wrong.
And I'm a guy (at least my wife thinks so).
