Was at signing event tonight. As always it was very enjoyable. Was very impressed by new OC TJ Weist. Had a very professional appearance, handled himself with poise and had a sense of humor. If he can impress me the same way with his play calling this fall , I would be extremely happy. Wondered what everyone else thought of him. Also Hank Hughes did a great job with his presentation. I always liked him.

I feel a lot more comfortable with this year's staff than last year's. And with this year's recruiting class. Now we just need a B1G invitation ...

I tweeted the same from the event... Da Buggs looks like a win as well. Had a quick second to welcome him and he was very gracious.

You ask for opinion, did you not think TJ would have a professional appearance? He was calm, cool and collective. Depending on what takes place he will probably be a HC some where soon. I hope we can keep him.

Have been a fan of Hank since the day he got here (01). Love the way the Buggs man came across also.....No slander here just say,n

Was impressed with everyone's presentations. Weist had a very professional air about him, CEO like. Haven't been to one of these event in 4 years and this was about attendance-wise 2/3 the size of the last one that I went to. Looks like the type of recruits that they got also fits Susan Herbst's mold as well. Appears to be a class of outstanding citizens as well as scholars, an outstanding group of recruits. Too bad Lagow hadn't sent in his LOI. Not sure as if I blame him for being careful what with the possibility of red shirting and then the possibility of sitting a year if it doesn't work out and he transfers. 6 years is a long time to spend in college. I don't see his dad as being Oriaki like, just being careful for his son before he starts the journey not 1/2 down the path.
Hughes sounded very enthusiastic and at ease. Liked the joke about him working harder than T Meyers at adding weight at the training table. All in all a very good night for the Team and their fans

GDL did not look happy after he announced the lineman coming in he went off stage and left. Not sure why but I can bet the loud reception for Coach Weist.

What are the chances GDL doesn't make it to the spring game? Did he actually leave the event?

Maybe he was kept on until after signing day to keep things steady and to save face for him until he can get an NFL assistant to the OL coach gig.

Then Foley gets the line back and then all is well. I can dream can't I?

I just can't picture GDL taking orders from a young whipper snapper.

It looked like he left to me. He usually is smiling when fans wave to him and this time he just stayed straight face and left. I might be reading to much into it but I don't think he is happy with the coaching change

If we win as Cincinnati has been winning over their past two coaches, we'll probably be in a new conference quick.

"It’s Always Darkest Before the Dawn," Nathanael Greene said in a letter to his wife as they retreated from NY through New Jersey. Those familiar with the Revolution might get this, but I think (at least hope) UConn Football (and UConn athletics at large) is like the Continental Army just before they surprised the Hessians at Trenton. As they were getting their butts kicked from Battle of Long Island (Brooklyn) straight through when they finally stopped at the Delaware River and GW came up with the idea of the surprise attack. I was reading "1776" other day and thought of the Weist hire and that thought crossed my mind.

G DL could not get off the stage fast enough. He tried to get off the other end (no stairs) so he wouldn't have to go by Weist. One would think that Weist had communicable disease.

This can't be a good thing. If you guys got that read just from those few moments, how do we know Weist is going to have the freedom he needs. Biggest fear is GDL is going to still be meddling with the offense and discourse will build. Anyone else afraid of this?

Prior to the event TJW and GDL were having a very cordial convo off to the side in the area just before the room were the player autographs were being done. I have seen/spoken to GDL @ other footballs events and briefly stopped, shook his and TJW hand and welcomed TJW to CT. No strange vibes.

There are some coaches that revel in the limelight and others are are not comfortable in the limelight. GDL is one to just try to get the work done. He was asked to stand up and describe the O-line and he did... he was just about drooling about Shefenacker.

Making mountain out of molehill in my opinion (but you can have a big "I told ya so medic" if you are right).

Like the OC hire! Can't wait to see what he does to this offense. Professional and I hope that we can keep him for a few years and then offer him the HC job if things get better than the last 2 years. Go TJW!!

I am sure GDL has tons of NFL offers - he did us a huge favor coming here.

I second the impressions for Weist and Buggs. They are very professional and I think they really add a lot to our staff. I don't know about the interaction between TJW and GDL, but if GDL was barely talking to him after Weist stated how much he wanted to work with him and learn from him, I take it as a signal that TJW is really going to have the reigns and not that GDL will. I guess we'll see.

I still see this as a real possibility. GDL was inches away from being signed, sealed and delivered to the NFL when a couple of recruits got spooked. I posted then that he'll remain through signing day and then look for an NFL gig.

As far as his disappearance immediately after speaking, this does not surprise me as he had the reputation of not being very receptive to people with good ideas for the offense (rumor has it he refused to speak with Day for much of last season). I'm convinced GDL's days here are few, they are just trying to allow him to make it look like he left on his own accord.

FCF - Not sure I understand the connection between the Des report of GDL to Giants and the spooked recruits? Are you saying that GDL pulled his name??

What I was trying to say, Whale. . . .

This topic deserves a thread of its own. While I am thrilled there is a new OC, there is a bigtime awkwardness to this chain of command. It can succeed if PP is all in and keeps his boy neutralized & compliant. If he doesn't. . . hello Bill Stewart trying to undermine the new guy.

IMO, Warde, as under the radar as he could - w/the assistance of an uninquisitive Horde - essentially has hired a coach in waiting. Exact same scenario as Holgorsen at WVU except AD didn't announce the hire. I would love to see the buyout provisions in Weist's contract. He's clearly taking a professional risk coming here if he gets undermined and doesn't get the power he needs to succeed (such as the ability to call timeouts).

Most of this board has seen the job description. There is no way that was written by PP. There is no way Warde was not involved in the hiring process.

Finally, re Warde's postseason speech to the team: it really had the feel of him venting because he was told by Herbst or BOT (Hello. Larry) that PP had to stay another year. Maybe this is the next best thing. I sure hope so.

For this to be plausible WM must have some prior relation or link to TJW. Doubtful that a WR coach would be targeted to be UConn's next head coach via a short gig as the OC.
