Yes, they swallowed their own nuts Friday as they seem to every March, but I don't care.

I am declaring a no-contest for tonight's game and calling Thursday's UConn-Syracuse game the championship game. And darn it, Syracuse nipped us for the title.

Tonight is the worst thing to happen to Big East basketball in the past year - and yes, I am including losing Syracuse and Pitt to the ACC in that. These two teams have done everything they can to violate the basketball except for cutting a hole in it and duck*ing it.

UPS the trophy to Syracuse and tell these two butchers to go home and think about what they've just done.

LOL. I had to work, got home and threw the game on. At first I was shocked to see the score at 44-32 with 6:23 left. And then I thought for a second, and that shock totally went away. Hope they used some vasoline.

NO! The winner wasn't SU, Pitt, or WVU. The Big East was the winner.

If they have a bad shooting night watch out for Syracuse to be the first 1 seed to lose to a 16, they rely on the jump shot soo heavily...

I see a rematch of Cuse-Vermont. Unfortunately I don't think this year's UVM squad can pull it off.

Very appropriate--swallowed their own nuts!!!!!!!!!!! Big Dance history is not on their side. I believe absent Carmelo they have NOT made the E8 since 1997!!!!!! Their meltdowns make George Mason seem irrevelant. They will find a way AGAIN to screw the pooch. Remember 2 yrs ago when Wes Johnson was going to lead them to the FF? How'd that work out??Gone by the 2nd week Book it.

Ironic that UCONN fans are underwhelmed by an ugly basketball game. Short memories...

The one ugly NC win is still more than the zero Providence will ever have.

Good point, to an extent. First half, UConn/Butler was (for how bad it was) higher scoring (24-14 vs 22-19). Think about that. Everyone and their mother says that UConn/Butler may be one of the worst games they have ever seen and this game had a lower scoring first half. Second, UConn's second half output outpaced any scoring half by UL or Cincy. 34 for UConn, 26 for UL and 30 for Cincy. So again in one of the worst shooting performances ever, this game still was worse. For that matter UConn's final score exceeded UL's (slightly). Finally, look at the TO numbers, Butler/UConn combined for 17, UL/Cincy for 25.

The Butler/UConn game was more bad shooting, whereas the Cincy/UL game was just sloppy.

Cuse can't play VT this year...met them 2 years ago in the tourney. BTW, Cuse relies on transition scoring opportunities to win games. Jump shots are jump shots...if you suck at them in a game you are always subject to lose.

BTW, goodluck to UConn...hope to meet you guys in the F4, not one round sooner please.

Arinze getting hurt was the reason...that was a F4 team but too bad they ran into a scratch n claw Butler team.

Nah.....just the way some teams and conferences play defense. They won't let you get in the open floor and in transition and then they just deny you anything easy. Pitt and UCONN immediately come to mind. Calhoun built this program around kids who would do anything to keep the other team from scoring. I wish this years team knew how to play that way. But, it involves fighting through picks, rotating over on defense and getting a bloody lip once in a while.......as opposed to wondering where they'll end up in the NBA draft.

btw, Cuse always looks soft in the post season. They can't seem to match the intensity needed sitting back in that zone. My take anyway. Even worse......that's the way their football teams play as well.

Kudos to you a dig on both the football and basketball teams in one post.;)
I agree Cuse hasn't been blowing out teams lately...anything less than a F4 would be an epic meltdown on our board. As always match-ups and a dose of luck are most important.

That wasn't a Final Four team - that backcourt just wasn't good enough to get them through the tournament. I think they had about twenty turnovers against Butler and just couldn't force any - that was the game, not the 'scratch and claw'.

When Arinze Onuaku is the difference between winning and losing, you're not a Final Four team.

And I would agree - they really need to make the Final Four this year. This is their best chance in a long time.

The backcourt was decent but yes not elite...BTW, that Cuse team wasn't the brightest but Matt Howard getting away with a grab n pulldown on a critical possession late swung the game. AO was critical because he had the mass to keep Butler guys at bay in the paint.

I actually really do believe that playing primarily a zone defense puts teams at a disadvantage. Kind of the Bobby Knight philosophy...and after this season with my Huskies I'm about as grotchety.

The football comment was simply an immature dig to remind Orange fans where they stand with UCONN in that regard. ;)

Since the Dance went to 64 teams I don't think many teams won with a zone D,maybe Nova but not sure. Definite disadv for the Cuse, remembering that all man to man teams play the hedge combo of man to man and zone. 2nd week end book it!!!!!!!!!!
