LOL. What the Governor knows is that people in Syracuse pay taxes towards his salary and people in Connecticut (unless they work in NY) don't. Not a thing.
Would not be surprised if the the net gain was those few taxpayers working in NY living in CT. Those CTers's don't use the services of the state, some in the city, but not much.
1WTC is Port Authority NY NJ so the lights are controlled by them. Sure if a governor calls, they will listen, but it's more likely a bureaucrat making the decision which way the wind is blowing.

You can pay the ESB to shine whatever colored lights you want. They've shone UConn colors in the past. NBD.

A lot of UConn women fans in NYC. 5.0 rating doesn't lie.

Then again, Cuomo proposed the state spend $200m on a new stadium for Syracuse.

Which is crazy in a state that is defunding public higher education.

So typical though.

New York is definitely one of those nitwit states. Unfortunately, all too frequently, so are we.

One WTC is managed by Silverstein properties, which is private, and currently owned by the PNYNJ, which is a quasi state agency managed by NY and NJ. My understanding is that one simply has to contact Silverstien and pay the fee to get those lights with oversight from PNYNJ to ensure nothing 'controversial' is done. While Cumo may have asked, who paid for it? If it was 'free' then someone has to compensate Silverstien for the loss of revenue. As a taxpayer and Stillwater from NJ, I would be pretty upset that money was used or given up to support a private entity.

Just like when Rutgers paid to light the Empire State Building red these things are done for a price and has nothing to do for anything else.
