Agreed. While I obviously wanted Stanford to beat Syracuse in and of itself, I would have been really sad to miss out on this opportunity to see how both teams are stacking up. The most fascinating thing about this Stanford team is how different it looks depending on the opponent. In this sense, Tara must be having one of her more enjoyable seasons in ages; Tara often analogizes strategizing and scouting basketball to chess, and she's playing with close to a full set of chess pieces. Rather than one Queen who can do it all (last season, Alanna Smith), she's got a ton of different pieces that can do a few things really well, and that warrant subbing in and out depending on the opposition and its defensive sets. I am not at all surprised Jump had a huge game last night - she is a 3 point assassin who is solid but not spectacular on defense, so she's perfect for teams that play zone and don't get too physical on offense. I am almost certain she will have a minimal presence against MSU, because we'll need solid ball handlers comfortable against the press and physical presence inside, and she provides neither of those. If I had to guess, I'm assuming Belibi, Wilson, and the Hulls will get more playing time and Jones and Jump less. To me, the key here is two things: 1) Stanford bigs have to stay out of foul trouble (since we only have 3), and 2) Carrington is really ideally suited to play against a team like MSU, so whether she suits up might very well be the difference. Either way, really looking forward to this matchup and hoping for a close contest down the stretch. Vic is one of my favorite WCBB coaches and one of its best tacticians, so it's great to finally see him and Tara match up. And frankly, we owe him payback for the role he played coaching A&M's defense against us in the 2011 FF game. That one still burns...
