USC has won it previously, but that was almost 40 years ago. Going through the top coaches who haven’t one who have the best shot to get it done: 1. Cori Close - they’re the #1 overall team this year and have vast majority of top contributors back next year. To be honest I think it’ll be a disappointment if they can’t convert either this season or next into a title 2. Vic Schaefer - people keep counting them out but he’s in his 4th Elite 8 in 5 years and is recruiting well with Madison Booker on board for 2 more years. 3. Lindsey Gottlieb - she had a great shot this year prior to Juju’s injury. They’re probably out of the running for next year too now and will most likely only have Juju for 1 more season. 4. Kara Lawson - I feel like she gets such little credit for how well she’s doing. Duke is steadily building each year and she has a good roster the next couple of years. They seem more like a Final Four program than true title contender though. 5. Niele Ivey - she’s had bad luck with injuries but this year was her best shot and ND just faded hard down the stretch. I wouldn’t count her out ND doesn’t look like a powerhouse next year. 6. Mark Campbell - the TCU turnaround has been remarkable. Whether he can sustain this and build off of this historic season remains to be seen. 7. Kim Caldwell is a good dark horse pick. Tennessee was completely revamped and competed with almost every top team they played this year. Give her a couple of years to recruit players that fit her style and system and they could be in the national picture again. 8. Baranczyk is another name to keep an eye on with Chavez coming next year. #1 recruits usually lead to a lot of success. Worth noting - I don’t think Ralph is leaving Vandy even when Geno retires. Walz’s recruiting has slowed down and his teams have been top 20ish the last several years rather than being title contenders. Id be surprised to see his teams back in the top 5 despite having some good freshmen. Wes Moore too I don’t see it happening, though his teams almost always over perform relative to preseason expectations.
