Swann Eager To Put Return Back Into UConn Special Teams

>>Swann, from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, will be given the opportunity as the Huskies' top punt and kickoff returner. And UConn's approach to returning punts will make touchdowns a possibility. This is all an injection of fresh air into what was an incredibly conservative football operation on all fronts in three years under Bob Diaco, particularly in its approach punt returns.<<

>>Edsall's back now, and the special teams shackles are off. UConn wants to run returns like an offensive play, and two freshmen — Swann, a second-team defensive back, and Quayvon Skanes, a first-team receiver who redshirted last season — have been given the responsibility to make something happen in the transfer of possessions.<<

>>"I'm real comfortable catching balls back there, trying to make a play," Swann said. "High school is a lot different. In college, we have blocking schemes and plays. You have to catch the ball first. We stress that a lot. I just want to make big plays and give the offense good field position."<<

Prop bet time.

1. UConn will have more punt return yards by_________________ than last year's team did all season.
2. UConn will have more punt return yards this year than all three years combined under Energy Vampire.

Read. With. Caution

2016
3 returns, 21 yards

2015
6 returns, 2 yards

2014
12 returns, 81 yards.

Did Swann run track? Is he fast? Does he have a 100 time? I checked but couldn't find anything.

Robbie Frey and Nick Williams almost had more return yards on one return each than the entire team did in 3 years combined

Our best return specialists are pretty straitforward archetypes:

PR - short, shifty guys with great vision and good speed(Larry Taylor, Nick Williams, Reggie McClain)

KR - Big Rugged athletes with great speed and good vision, not a lot of wiggle(Tyvon, Frey)

I'm glad we are getting back to this model. For years, it was always a huge advantage for us.

Lets figure that there was at least 5 return chances per game. Lets assume the average pick up was a modest 10 yards after catch. Ten games means a loss of 500 yards of offense..or stated another way.. 1 to 2 full game's worth of offensive output.

Probably more like 2-3 games of a Diaco offense's output.

That can't be right.
Can it?
Good lord. I got more mileage out of a 50 year old vietnamese street corner gal.
Wow. And I got a warning from a site mod for a bikini shot of Kate Upton in reply to a post that mentioned Kate Upton coaching or something. Apparently Asian Hookers are OK but Aussies aren't. Lesson learned.

Jim Fuller on Swann:
"I have goals to give the offense good field position, hopefully score and make plays for my team,” Swann said."

There are ways. :D Say hi to my friend Kate.
