It sounds as if Sveta may be on the team again this year. Stricklen can start by trying to defend her in practice.

I think every player coming out of college has a weakness that needs fixing for the next level. For some it's defense, for some it's offense, for others it's ball handling or passing or rebounding. For Shekinna, it's defense and even with all the work they put in, there will always be players on the perimeter that you do not want Shekinna matched up with. She has a long frame with a high waste and at 6'2', she will never defend quick guards well. It's a mismatch waiting to happen.

"It's a big jump defending people. You go from college, where you're kind of stuck in the lane; you don't really have to guard shooters every day. "

From a school that prides itself on defense and rebounding, this says a lot about why that particular class of seniors underachieved.

Stricklen was a victim of some very questionable coaching in college. When they asked her to play the point, it meant she could not develop into a complete wing player, including playing good defense. Instead she had to spend all her time trying, unsuccessfully, to become a point guard.

It will be interesting to see if this #2 pick by the Storm pays off. Jury will be out for a while, IMO.

This kind of publicity does not bode well for TN recruiting. It seems like the WNBA draft made some selections as though the Lady Vols were still the same organization as it was in the olden days.
