E-X-T-E-N-D-E-D!

The Seattle Storm have re-signed star guard Sue Bird to a multiyear deal, sources told the Associated Press on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old Bird was the top free agent in the WNBA this season, although she was always expected to stay with the team she has played for her entire career, ever since being drafted No. 1 in 2002. Bird averaged 10.3 points and 5.4 assists last season in 27 games. She helped the team win WNBA championships in 2004 and 2010.

Commentary: I figured I address this before Kib gets his hands on it. The above is part of an Associated Press story. The famed AP! The Associated Press, as most know, has, and have published the "AP Style Guide" for MANY years. Yet, its own writers must be unaware of its existence. How many errors can you find in just the first sentence? Three just bug the H_ _ L out of me.

Some folks thought 2016 would be Sue's last season. I think she has extended her WNBA career by broadcasting, rather than playing in Russia. I also think she must feel some excitement--and perhaps an obligation--about playing with Stewie. I'd like to see Kaleena come back looking like she did as a sophomore, because she is an elite shooter and smart player. A line-up of Sue, Jewell, Stewie, and an in-shape Kaleena, plus one other player, will be tough to defend.

The Mercury isn't just DT3, Dwanna Bonner and Candace Dupree are all-stars and you're forgetting Britney Griner!!
I was just thinking of the UCONN alum-fest. But, in addition to the others you mentioned, Penny Taylor will be back along with DT too. The Storm should be way overmatched.

Don't forget KML and Jewell Loyd

If Seattle acquires two more UConn alums, they have their own version of UConn "west", and could potentially start a team of 5 former UConn players. Not probable, but not a bad thought. either.

Great news for all of the Mercury fans. Any time your star player returns, it's great news. Diana will turn 34 in June (Born: June 11, 1982 (age 33), Glendale, CA). Diana is becoming a little long in the tooth.
How much longer can she (or will she want to) play at this level? Diana has already logged a lot of basketball miles on her body. Her Mercury cohort, Candice Dupree will turn 32 on August 16.
