Sue Bird | The Boneyard

Sue Bird

She just passed Lindsay Whalen. Lindsay played 6 years in Connecticut with Asjha Jones et al. and 8 years in Minnesota with Maya Moore et al. Some really good finishers.

Never been a fan of media or social media stating wins & losses and championships for an individual in a team sport.

Example 1: Saniya Chong won 144 games and lost only 2 games in her college career. Reality is how many games would UConn have lost without Chong?

Example 2: Sue Bird won 4 championships in her WNBA career. Reality is Bird does not win those 4 titles without Lauren Jackson and Breanna Stewart.

Still obviously a great career for the GOAT PG.

Jackson and Stewart don't win their championships without Sue Bird.

I think we will see how important Bird really is when USA basketball fields a senior team without her. It is not an easy task taking 11 other stars and making them work as a team - some of that is coaches, but a lot has been Sue on the floor and in the locker room. (The men's team has shown on a few occasions that supreme talent is not enough.

This coming transition is going to be huge. (If DT isn't on the team, and maybe not Griner or Fowles ... )

The 2016 USA team in Rio was absolutely loaded, arguably the best team ever. The end of the bench consisted of Catch, Stewie, and EDD. That’s just crazy. They blew through the competition with ease, except the game against France. That was the game that Sue missed due to a sore knee. Whatever team Sue is on, things flow better because of her presence and play.
