Striker ?! Please Stop

I would say it’s quite a bit different. The examples you cite were all created by basketball players and coaches, and gradually became commonly accepted basketball terms. The ridiculous use of the term striker is one that is being created by an announcer who thinks it will get her some publicity.
Much ado about nothing! There is no law says coaches and players have monopoly hold on the game terminology . If people likes the term and it will be trending and more widely accepted. If not , it will die off naturally. As someone already said earlier , nobody actually paid attention to it till you mentioned it. If it becomes accepted , it will be all your fault!

I kinda love Kristy, and Monica McNutt too. They’re both very enthusiastic in their work and clearly love the game. And they were also early fans of Paige and Azzi. And they’re also both a bit ‘creative’ in their use of language. They rub up against the limits of linguistic usage to express what they see from great players, awkward phrases like “she’s built different” or “picturesque form.” When I initially hear some of these, they strike my ears like squeaky chalk on a blackboard. ‘Strikers’ is just the latest innovation. Watch Monica’s call of Paige’s freshman game against SC for a few wonderful examples. Or Kristy’s call of freshman Azzi’s away game against Marquette.
Kristy Winters-Scott is a close friend of the Fudd family.

“Generational” irks me. Not the word but its overused.

I mean, who is the generational player of the year this year
I'm with you. Each time I hear it I ask myself, “Kohler or Generac?”

If Al Mcguire was calling women's basketball these days, would the big girls that Texas, little Carolina and Oklahoma have be called aircraft carriers? 😋
I haven’t heard a women’s game announcer use Raftery’s, “and left some lingerie on the deck” phrase. Haha. That’s when a player with the ball outmaneuvers the defensive player (with a crossover dribble mostly) and leaves them in the dust.

If everyone would ignore these buzzwords they would die a natural death. When’s the last time you remember Dick Vitale referring to a freshman as a “diaper dandy”? Or Bill Raftery referring to a shot off the backboard as “with a kiss”? Raftery was always the best at creating these phrases. Double onions for Bill!

Striker? Is that someone who commits a flagrant verbal foul, like calling a basketball “the rock”?
LOL, the rock? I shot the brick. 😊

Not all terms go away. "From the elbow" has been around since the game was invented.

Sounds like you have to much time on your hands if your big complaint of the day is about an announcer’s terminology. If you didn’t bring it up I would not have given it a single second of thought.
Meh, I find it grating as well. I probably wouldn't have started a thread over it though.

Christy Winters Scott uses it pretty hard as if she wants to drive it into common usage. Someone needs to tell her..

I get tired of "hoop and harm" too but I just heard a new one from our area broadcasters when some one makes a basket and gets fouled in the process ...."Bucket and band-aid". I'm not sure which one is worse.

I've heard the term used in an SEC game:

"Was that just a hard foul, or did she actually striker?"

"Don't know, they are going to the tape."

"While they review, we'll go to a quick word from our insurance sponsor...you too can protect your family."

I think you are the only person who has said that they love, even like, Monica McNutt, the latest McDonalds figure. I know she has toned down some of her antics but never will be a fan of her.
