It has to be the two WRs Davis and Phillips. If this team is going to do anything this year, these coaches are going to have to figure out a way to maximize the touches for these two. They need to figure out a way to get the balls to these guys so much, that they can set up the run off the pass. I know it's not P's history, but as I watch the replay of the "Debacle". I can't help but notice how physically imposing these two and how they can gash a defense for big gainers. Can the OL provide enough time for the QB? How bout some max protect packages?

I truly believe the only way this season has any chance to turn around, they are going to have to make these two guys the focus of the offense. We also need to recruit some WRs with size going forward. Everyone else on the roster is a smurf at WR.

Whitmer is almost always running for his life. You would too if you have had 2 concussions and 5 sacks on 8/29 and many sacks the previous year. I don't know how the OL can look him in the face. Anyone would have happy feet under these
circumstances. He holds the ball too long sometimes, maybe he can't see over the line.

Whitmer did not have a good game against Towson, but I think he can be a fine QB for us. He made some very good throws last Thursday and in Davis and Phillips he has two very good receivers. But, the only way he is going to consistently get time to throw is if we re-establish a running game that will keep defenses honest. Frankly, I think this coaching staff is absoutely wed to the current blocking schemes and running McCombs as the workhorse. So, you do the same things it's only logical to expect the same outcomes......

True he missed Delorenzo wide open in the flat on what would have been a big gainer. Whitmer, I expected a huge leap from. I'm guessing he is an average college QB. 57% completion percentage guy as a general rule. Unfortunately for us, Average college QB is light years ahead from where we've been.

I didn't make that comment to turn this into a Chandler Whitmer bash. The kid's numbers on paper looked good. But he didn't play well, or perhaps a better way to say it is he played inconsistent. The purpose of that statement, was that for the receivers to be a big part of the game, to the point of being game changers, play makers, there's another player on the field that has to be reliable and consistent in what he's doing.

I like Whitmer and have always been in his corner, but I agree with Carl on this one. He didn't look sharp on Thursday. He had some great throws (or at least really good ones, but he also threw a number into the ground or off target when he had people open. And while he was under pressure a lot, I also thnk he developed happy feet. I thought there were plenty of times he felt the pocket collapse before it actually did. I can't recall him once standing tall in the pocket as it was shrinking and delivering a ball before getting hit. He seemed anxious to tuck and run.

I still like him, but if he doesn't get more comfortable back there, I'd be curious to see how Boyle or Cochran would do. Maybe no better with this o-line, but I'd still be curious.

While i understand how one could make the argument they are our O strength, the bar they have to hurdle is pretty low. The O line could not generate any push against an FCS team (cant wait to see the push the next 2 weeks); Hemingway, a guy I was very anxious to see somehow got confused and thought he was a mexican bullfighter; McCombs still thinks he is at a dance party as he evaluates every possible outcome before hitting the frigging hole; the TE's were well, um, do we have TEs?; and, Whitmer looks great when given a pocket and time and horrible if both are not provided. So, sure 10-177 and 1 TD against a FCS team are the strength.

I'm not going to give up on this kid yet, but Whit will have to have his best game ever vs Maryland. I want to see a leader who's in control of the huddle. Who doesn't get happy feet and looks like a deer in headlights. The turnover machine he has been in 13 games is unacceptable for a qb.
I want to see the heart and passion he delivered last year, which made me optimistic in his abilities to play qb in Div. 1 I know the recent qb's have been horrible and maybe my eyes were deceiving me with what I have seen so far, but it's his team to lead. The 4th and 1 fumbles, errant screen passes, mistakes, clock management has to stop. Maybe he's taking a cue from the dinosaur head coach, but the new o-coordinator has been saying he wanted an up tempo offense. Well can Chandler deliver this type of play? 6 three- and outs is not cutting it anymore. Boyles promotion to #2 speaks volumes. Chandlers rope is tightening, time to put up or shut up. Or he'll be riding the pine. Let's see some spark and confidence in this team and it starts with the man who holds the ball. Lets go!

2 most important positions on college football team are QB and RB. Neither Chandler nor LM would start for virtually any BCS team, not many of the rest of 1A and none of the top1AA teams.
When outmanned at these positions need to use "fhcRE" style of power blocking, lot of 3rd and short power running, short passes and QB who can run. Keep it close, find a way to win.

It sucks that our line has been a seive and CW was the victim. He's gotten his bell rung (in a bad way) toooooo many times. Hard to say "hey man stay in there longer and take another shot" even though that's pretty much what he has to do...

I just want to see him try to make a play more with his feet at least. Looked like the coaching staff got into his head and our hand cuffing him. These guys have to let this kid loose, he's a gun slinger qb, let him play that way. True the o-line is horrible, but there were at least a half a dozen plays he could of done a better job last game. I think he started to run more in his last series which gives me hope that he's trying to overcome the play of the o-line in which I give him credit for. Yes the kid took a beating last year and stuck through it, but it's a new year and his starting job is on the line.

Running, yes, the opportunities were there to pick up yards and slide so that we keep gaining yardage.

Throwing, not so much... he misses most of his throws on the run.

Nope. Need to force CW into being better or replace him altogether. The strength of this team (no matter how inadequate it may turn out to be) is passing. And since that's the direction of college football and since exciting offense is the name of the game in today landscape, this is the only direction to go in.
