ESPN and its woman's BB staff just issued a 1-month report card that I found bizarre.

-In the main discussion 11 paragraphs go by before the name UConn is uttered ...and then only in passing by Philippou.
-In a discussion of dominant duos there is no mention of UConn...perhaps justified...although Beckers/Strong might be under consideration.

But get to Player of the Year: (near the bottom) Bueckers is the unanimous choice
And who they predict will be the National Champion...2 out of 3 pick UConn

What is strange, weird, disconcerting is for the first 2/3's of the piece virtually every winning team across the country
is noted, analyzed, and evaluated...Not UConn.

But when it comes to the bottom line UConn is prevalent.

Strange journalism.

They were saving the best for last.;)

Not strange at all. ESPN as an organization is generally pained when they are forced to mention UConn. Since they had to mention Paige and our chances of winning it all, there was no way they would mention us in the body of the article.....

Getting a 3 month start on Lent and persecution complex I see.

That's just goofy talk.

I don’t think the article was odd. Looking at the article it was divided into segments of:

“What are the biggest surprises”,
“What player or team has been flying under the radar?”
“What’s something you believed in preseason that is now in doubt?”
“Who has been disappointing?”

Where does UConn fit into any of these categories? So far winning, with no drama, as expected. UConn success is never under the radar or surprising.

Then they end with all picking Paige for player of the year thus far, obviously the correct choice in my opinion.

May I humbly suggest that your take is a bit overreactive.

"Virtually every winning team across the country"? There are 20+ undefeated teams, plus another 30+ teams with one loss. I don't believe "virtually all" or even a majority of them are brought up in this one article.

If the main complaint, then, is that the sections on POY and NC picks aren't located high enough on the page for your liking ...

I know this is tough but, as UConn fans, we gotta stop being paranoid. Not everything has to be about us. It is okay if we get mentioned last. It is not always about us. We got 4 decades of excellence. We good taking the backseat sometimes.

ESPN is mainly covers teams from the power conferences that are their property. I believe the Big East is fox property and is not really a power conference in women’s basketball.

ESPN! Nuff said!

Not surprised at all. ESPN does NOT like UConn. Been like that a few years. They GUSH over South Carolina. Especially last 2 years.
This is an odd take considering UCONN was spoken about much more positively than South Carolina in the article.

South Carolina has won 2 of the last 3 national championships and is coming off an undefeated season. Maybe I'm grasping for straws here but there just might be a correlation between winning and positive media coverage.

I'm not interested in ESPN's monthly report cards or predictions about who will win the NC......I'm only interested in UConn going about the business of winning the whole damn thing.........whether they're written about extensively or not at all means absolutely nothing in the scheme of things....;)

They’ve been focused on wbb ”elsewhere” for several years and shifting gears back to “all UConn, all the time” is choppy at present. Years ago we joked that ESPN “hated” UConn, Bristol, the Red Sox, etc. cuz all the employees were graduates of either Syracuse or Rutgers.

ESPNW is an afterthought at ESPN. All articles are written by just three or four writers. Their panel reviews/rankings are done by those same three or four. Statistically you need far more than three "analysts" to come up with a reasonable analysis/ranking.

My philosophy is that many here on the Boneyard read what the ESPN writers write so that I DON'T have to! :):)
