As Mil pointed out, she was much more like Brittany Griner than Brittany Spears today! Double double - sure Idaho was over matched, but still nice to see from her.

Love this!

More important than any stats per se against an overmatched Idaho squad is the fact that Kiah went hard and dominated as she should. Geno & Co. just have to keep her motor running in subsequent rounds!!

I'd be surprised if she was an impact player against the games that will actually matter this tournament, but If she can keep improving and stay focused and healthy, she could be a key player next year, a season where Uconn will start #1 and should finish thusly.

14 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks on 6-7 shooting. IMO it wasn't just the overmatched opponent. For once Stokes seemed to be looking to shoot.

Stokes has made an impact in most of the games she's played. Unfortunately, it's been mostly confined to the defensive end. It was nice to see her so aggressive on offense. If you look at Stokes' stats per minutes played she's right up there with Stewart for rebounds and blocks.

I suspect Auriemma will focus a lot less on assigning minutes based on practice. Now that the tournament has started he's going to assign minutes based on winning.

Do you have that backward?

to assign minutes based on winning.

How exactly do you do that -- play the folks you "think" have the potential to succeed? Haven't others dogged certain player's execution and effort? Stokes included? Just wondering what criteria you'd work with as a coach.

I know she's not always super consistent, but she's the best rebounder and shot blocker on the team, and leads the team in FG%. It's baffled me that she hasn't gotten more minutes. I think giving Dolson a little more rest against ND could have been the difference in those games. I hope Kiah sticks around at UConn - she's got a lot to offer and UConn needs her.

She wasn't perfect today, but Kiah looked very good to me. She did pass up one or two foul line jumpers, but she took about four and hit most of them. She also posted up hard and looked to score inside. She ran the floor well and hustled. I agree with Chris--she is our best rebounder and shot blocker. She's big and strong with long arms. We need to stop ND's dribble penetration. Maybe Kiah can help.

folks Geno makes practices harder than game situations to test the merit and grit of the players. It is from here he selects the minutes that the girls will play - if they can handle the high pressure situations, they are in - if they cannot, they sit. geno in essence will not set them up to fail if you want to look at it that way.

Interestingly enough Kiah gave good minutes in big games last season.
