Stephen A on Geno's critique of NCAAT

While I view SAS' takes with a grain of salt most days, his interpretation is correct. The logistics behind the super regionals are insane for teams based on the West Coast. Add in the short turnaround time too for all teams and it gets worse.

If they want to keep the same two Regional system then they need to be more centrally located and the finals need to be in the middle America too. Since they are playing UCLA in the first game I don't think the advantage is that great since they have to travel all the way across the country too. But on Sunday they will play a team that barely had to travel at all the past couple weeks and that could be worth a point or two for the enemy.

UCLA played in Spokane on Sunday afternoon & flew cross country on Monday morning. They were in Tampa over 24 hours before UCONN.

Yes they were both in Spokane but UCLA’s game ended around 5PM EST Sunday. UConn’s game ended 31 hours later. That’s a big difference in recovery time especially if someone has a tweaked ankle or whatever.

And, UCLA was home on Sunday, before UConn's game tipped off.

The guy made a couple of good points:

Geno is standing up for the players, not grandstanding.

Geno's been to a gazillion final fours, he knows more about what the teams go through than any of the decision makers, so they'd do well by listening to him.
