With rare, idiosyncratic exceptions I'm basically not going to watch NBA, MLB, or NFL games until there are no more than 8 teams left in the playoffs, sometimes 4, occasionally 2...no matter what changes are made.

Each year, I ask well-chosen friends to give me rule updates. Some I like, most I think are dumb, and none of them get me to watch more. I figure that the leagues & I have made peace that my boyhood self isn't coming back anytime soon.

I feel blessed to have watched the Islanders regularly throughout the regular season and Stanley Cup victories in 1981, '82, and '83. I still lived in CT in 1980, and also saw them lose in the Conference Championships in '84, before I no longer worked for a generous employer with season tickets. Before and after that, I found that I can't follow hockey on TV, so it doesn't interest me. As such, NHL doesn't count for me. If any rules have changed in the past 40 years, I have no clue.
