Are we just gonna see 2 QB's (CC and CW) going up and down the field against each other for the better of 3 quarters this year? That could be pretty interesting.

I'm guessing McCummings sees some snaps. And if I remember correctly, didn't we have a walk on from Don Bosco on the team last year?

My guess is we see something similar to last year: Whitmer and McCummings with the first team (3:1 ratio), while and Cochran, Boyle and Taylor take snaps with the second team (2:1:1) ratio. I'm sure a little mix and matching will happen throughout the second half.

Depending on weather, I'm giving serious consideration to bringing my son. He will be about 8 1/2 month old by then. We'll see.

Boyle will not yet have graduated from High School, so maybe he will be there but not play.

I would guess Whitmer and Cochran or McCummings, whoever is #2 on the depth chart will "start" The 3rd guy will play some maybe on both teams and maybe late the walkons get a few series. Boyle and Taylor are both still in high school. Neither will get into the game.

I wasn't sure if either of them were early enrollees like Cochran was. Apparently I've been schooled on that...:)

I still think Whitmer is primary with the 1's, Cochran with the 2's, and McCummings gets some play on every third series with the 1's. Whomever is the "scout team" QB in Spring Practice should be spelling Cochran.

Isn't there a walk-on with the team? Could be this year's Blaze Driscoll.

I know we had a walk on from Bosco last year (Leu?) but he's not on the spring roster. Only 3 QB's listed......

i hope we only see 2 qbs. i'm willing to get to the rent very early and block the gate for it to happen.

I'm thinking (hoping) they'll want to see as much as possible from Whitmer and Cochran. They didn't let McCummings throw last year so I'm not sure how many snaps he'll need tp prove he can still hand the ball off or option off the fake. I know we need a #3 ready but the coaches may want a close look at CC to see where he's at. I do too.

New OC = new ideas/new opinion on McCummings skills/how to best use them. If Weist was truly brought in to be the heir apparent, he better do a better job than his predecessor at putting the personnel on his team in the best possible position to succeed.

Look this is a competition between CC and CW. Can't see anybody else that will take snaps, except for a quarter's worth. Notwithstanding what happened in the previous spring practices, these guys should go toe to toe and see what happens.

I mean watching the Wildcat will not interest me too much. It's between those two. Don't leave anything on the field.

I don't see this being a competition at the QB spot. Whitmer is the starter. The competition will be for #2. I'd like to see Boyle redshirt.

We can't say that Whitmer is a lock until they go toe to toe 20th. Even if he is #1, I hope CC has a great game and pushes it right to the end of summer camp. That's what we need. With a new OC and Rec coach, not sure Whitmer has the advantage of the playbook as much.

This could be the best QB competition that we have ever had - or not

A practice game with free admission where anyone can attend and teams running a vanilla version of the final offense is going to determine who starts going into fall practice? I can only hope otherwise. THe team doesn't need that kind of uncertainty.

I think it remains Whitmer's job to lose and if he does it will be in closed practice. I don't think the Spring game will determine much except to reinforce what the coaches already know going into it.

Whitmer obviously goes into the spring as the starter. But by no means is he a lock, as his performance last year was shaky, especially his poor decision making. And no, locking on a receiver and consistently throwing into double and triple coverage is not the coaches fault. There needs to be big improvement in the turnover department.

We all know Cochran's reputation coming into the program - a tireless worker and student of the game. I am interested to hear updates during the spring.

And I agree that the spring game means almost nothing in regards to determining starters. Those battles will be won and lost during spring practices/scrimmages.

Maybe he'll implement the jump pass here like he did in the bowl game at Cincy.

It's about performance no matter what the circumstance.

Sure, I hope Cochran pushes him. Competition is good. But we have not had this clear of a QB picture going into the spring since Lorenzen was here. Whitmer is the clear #1.

Remember we will have a new offensive, it's possible that Cochran is more adaptable to it then Whitmer. New coach , new offense. Nothing is certain here. Hopefully the coach tells everyone , it's a new day, open competition for all positions, you got to earn the position on the field. Not by reputation.

How can he be the clear #1 when we couldn't hit a deep throw all year? Both CW and CC will work with the one's and production should matter, not just being good at practice.

This will easily be the best Spring game we have had. Whitmer vs CC and the debut of TJ Weist. I'm looking for 60 points scored if the weather is decent.

Eh, sometimes you get a good look at what's to come (last year) and sometimes the Spring Game gives you nothing (a few years ago when Frazer threw for 4,000 yards and looked like Joe Montana). To me, it's just a fun day with the boys at the Rent to see football in April at the right price.
